a/n: hey, ur beautiful honeyyy
general pov
today's the day. the day when i say goodbye to my loved ones. finn wolfhard and sadie sink.
thoughts ran through millies head, trying to keep the tears inside. maybe it would be acceptable to cry today. after all, this is a tragedy.
-
"so you're really moving to seattle today?" sadie asked, hoping that somehow, someway millie wouldn't be moving. she didn't have any other friends, so sadie had no idea what she would do whilst millie was gone. sadie became depressed just thinking about losing her best friend.
"yeah, it fucking sucks. i thought i would've at least been able to finish high school here, then college in cali." millie said as she and sadie walked along the sidewalk, visiting sites that they loved. millie knew she was to never gaze upon these places ever again, so she wanted to indulge all the shit this town had to offer.
"i'm gonna miss you millster. more than anything." sadie said. she felt a teardrop stream down her cheek. sadie looked down at her torn-up converse, which she only wore because they were her only pair of comfy shoes.
"i know, sads. me too," millie told her and grabbed her hand. "i won't find as good of a friend as you in seattle. hell, i probably won't make any friends!" millie said with a teary chuckle.
"millie, you're going to make so many friends, i'm the one who'll be lonely here." sadie said with a frown.
"only one and a half more years, sads. one and a half more years until we can go to college together in california. it can't be that bad, right?" millie explained.
they came up to an empty playground and took a seat on a wooden bench.
"i guess," sadie started, "but it'll feel like an eternity to me."
"i know. this sucks."
"look who it is, millster." sadie said and nudged her friend to look where she was.
a dark haired boy was walking towards them, and he looked a mess. his cheeks were red as well as his eyes, which were puffy. his nose was stuffy, causing him to sniffle every now and then.
he carried a small box in his right hand, and it was not visible to millie, but sadie could see it perfectly, so she quickly dashed away to give finn and millie some alone time.
"hey, finn." millie greeted sadly, looking up at the boy she loves. finn gave a nervous smile and took a seat on the bench beside millie.
"hi mills." finn said, placing his hands on his own knees, putting the small box next to him by his leg.
finn was scared of losing millie. scared that he would lose control of himself and go insane over her not being with him. even though they hadn't been in love for years, he still felt extremely depressed over just the thought of losing her and never seeing her again.
who knows, finn thought, what if millie finds a new boy to love; someone better than me? someone good for her, someone that can treat her the way she should. more than i could, because they would actually have money to buy her things. goddamnit.
millie was thinking the same things, but about finn.
"millie?" finn asked without looking at her, because if he took one glance at the face he loved, he would burst into tears.
"yes finn?"
"i want you to know that i love you. i don't think that's the right thing to say to someone that you will not see again, but you have got to know it's true." finn breathed out, before inhaling sharply and continuing, "and i hope you can have a better life in seattle. away from people like me dragging you down."
millie felt herself shed yet another couple of tears. she didn't know that heartbreak could feel so shitty.
"finn, at no point in our relationship were you dragging me down. you were helping me out of the deep dark hole that i had dug myself into." millie told him.
"i want what's best for you, mills. i want you to have a good life. and if that means you find someone new to love, then so be it. you'll never stop being stuck in my mind, though. i'll never find anyone like you." finn said while he played with his fingers nervously.
"not possible. the day i stop thinking about you is the day i die. you will always be my first love. and who knows, maybe we'll meet again in the future finn." said millie. she turned towards him and grabbed his warm hands with hers. millie had been crying for hours already, so she didn't have much left. finn hadn't been crying for too long, so when they met eyes, he started sobbing.
they stood up together, hand in hand. millie took the liberty of wrapping her arms around finn's body, embracing him in a loving hug. finn hugged back, obviously. he rested his head in the crook of her neck and continued letting tears spill. their grip on eachother was tight, as if holding eachother harder would make the pain of loss drift away.
"i'm going to miss you so much mills, you don't understand." finn sniffled, running the fingers on his right hand through millie's soft hair.
"me too, finn, me too. i hate that i have to move away. i love too much here." millie told finn whilst rubbing his back.
finn pulled away and reached toward the small black box that sat on the bench. he held it out in front of him.
"this isn't a proposal. i just want you to have something to remember me by, incase i never see you again." finn said and opened the case to present a beautiful green gem with a gold band. floral detailing encased the emerald, keeping it attached to the band. the band had this written on it in small print: wolfhard. millie gazed at the beautiful ring, eager to wear it.
finn reached into his back pocket and pulled a similar looking ring out, but this one said brown on it. he placed this one on his own finger, and took millie's ring and slid it onto her finger. they fit perfectly.
they clasped their hands together and placed their lips upon eachothers. it was short and sweet.
"thank you finn, i love it. i'll wear it for the rest of my life," millie said while staring into his glazed eyes, "i love you."
"i love you too, mills."
—
before millie left her beloved hometown, she made sure to say her goodbyes to sadie and natalia. natalia was pretty far into her pregnancy, and millie hated leaving her like that. as for her red-headed friend, they cried together and hugged for hours, befor the time came.
it was time for millie bobby brown to leave her life behind in that small town.
