Mal's POV:
Rachel:Listen here brat, you're adopted.

Mal: W-what?

Rachel: We don't want you anymore. Besides you're just in the way.

Mal: Where a-am I gonna g-go?

Rachel: Don't worry. We'll take care of that.

She grabbed me by the upper arm, where I have bruises. She dragged me up the stairs, and she hit my head of the wall.

Rachel: Stop being such a klutz!

I let out a small whimper but I didn't fight back. I just get beat worse if I do. She through me in my room and locked the door from the outside.

Mal: She just left me in here?

I thought out loud. That means tonight is going to be really bad. I shook my head, I can't go through this anymore. I pack all the clothes I had (which isn't much). I grabbed any other stuff I had. I also grabbed the money I made from my secret job, and the money I stole from the she-devil. With that I climbed out the window.

I just started running as fast as I could. I'm not sure where I am going. But anywhere is better than that hell-hole. After running for a few hours, I entered this small town. I bumped into a couple who were walking.

Colin: Whoa. Hey there love. What are you running from?

He had an accident I didn't recognize. I'm only use to my parents American accents, and my Australian one. My mother told me my grandparents were from Australia, and I just picked up on their accents.

Mal: I am so sorry. I-I w-was r-running *pause* Where am I?

Jen: You're in Willows-tree, honey.

Colin: Are you okay? Was someone chasing you?

Mal: Uh no, I just was going on a run?

Colin's POV:
It came out as a question. We didn't know what to say. She obviously wasn't telling us the truth. She looked sacred, and her clothes were all ripped up too.

Jen: Listen if you need help; we can help you. You're safe, no one's going to hurt you here.

Mal: I don't know.

Her voice was small.

Jen: I have to make a call. Maybe she can help.

She walked over to a quiet place. While she made the phone call.

Colin: She'll be right back.

Jen's POV:
-Phone Call-
Jen: Lana get down here we have a little issue.

Lana: What's wrong? Is everyone okay?

Jen: I can explain better in person.
-End Phone Call-

She must have been close by, because not five minutes later Lana came walking up to me.

Lana: Hey Jen. What's going on?

I told her about the girl. She was as equally concerned as Colin and I.

Lana: Well, let's go talk to her.

Mal's POV:
While the lady, who's name I haven't learned stepped away. Things were getting awkward with the strange man, who's name I also didn't know..

Colin: How rude of me. I'm Colin. That's my wife, Jen.

Mal: Nice to meet you.

The lady who I now know is Jen, walked over. She was with another women who was wearing a nice suit.

Lana: Hello, I'm Mayor Irwin. You can call me Lana. I'm also Colin's sister.

Colin rolled his eyes at her name. I wonder why?

Mal: H-hello.

Lana: Why don't we go to our town's famous diner? So, we can talk in a more comfortable place.

Mal: Only if Colin can come.

I'm not sure why but I trust him. Even though I just met him. Something about him feels familiar and safe to me.

Colin: You want me to come?

Mal: If that's not a problem.

I looked down at my ripped up shoes.

Colin: Not at all.

Colin's POV:
I can't believe she trusts me so quickly. I'm honored, but I have this strange feeling with her... Like a connection. Hopefully, we get some answers so we can help her.
