After that night Kevin used the phrase "I love you" way more often. Each time I would try to chance the subject. I liked Kevin a lot, but I didn't know if I loved him. After what I had done, and enjoyed with Alix and Bryan. If I loved Kevin wouldn't I have hatted the loving attention from the others instead of feeding off of it?
Due to guilt, and not feeling any better than I had been last fall, I slowly veered back to my old ways. Cutting, popping pills, and not eating much, all of which I hid from Kevin and the rest. The only one to suspect anything was Evan, and even so he didn't say anything.
We had left Kevin's mothers and I moved into his apartment with him. It was cozy, and Manny, Evan, Alix, and many others would visit often. Today however, was one of the few days where we seemed to be unbothered and entirely alone.
"Let's do something" Kevin said as he shut off the television.
"Like what?" I asked.
"Let's go get on a plane and go somewhere." He said with great enthusiasm.
"Money." I laughed and brushed the thought out of my head. He was only joking.
"I already have tickets." He said smugly and slipped his hand in his pants, pulling out two plane tickets.
"When is that for?"
"Um," he looked up at the clock on the wall. "About three hours."
"Kevin!" I shouted, both angered and pleased.
"Maria, come on, one night in a different state, it'll be fun!"
"Where to?" I attempted to grab the tickets but he held them above his head, just out of my reach.
"Surprise." He laughed. "Come on Maria."
"Well a bit of a warning would've helped." I started towards his room but he grabbed the back of my shirt.
"We leave now, come on!" He was as excited as a child going to Disneyland.
"Fine." I sighed.
He grabbed his keys and we headed off to the airport, and then to god knows where.
The flight took about three and a half hours, and whenever anything to do with destination came up Kevin would either cover my eyes or shove headphones in my ears.
Once out of the airport Kevin motioned for a cab. It was a busy city around us and I attempted to judge where we were by license plates. They were from various states however, Texas, Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Minnesota, New York, all over the country. Keivn whispered the destination to the driver and we were off.
"Any guess yet?" He asked.
"Nope." I looked out the window, trying to sense any familiarity.
"You'll see soon." He hugged me and kissed my forehead.
Once we arrived at our destination I knew exactly where we were. "Kevin!" I gasped. We were standing outside Mill City Nights, the venue where I had gone over a year ago to see Ghost Town preform.
Kevin payed the driver and raced inside. "Kevin McCullough." He held out his I.D to the security guard and pulled me down the stairs. He led me to the empty Neather Bar and stopped in the front center of the floor. "This is where you were when I saw you." He had a mischievous smile on his face.
"Kevin why are we-"
"Maria." He bent down and pulled something out of his pocket. "Maria Capecchi." He opened the tiny back box to reveal a small, but beautiful diamond ring. "Will you marry me?"
