The days following our trip to Diagon alley seemed to fly by and before I knew it the date was September 1st. I woke up to the sun shining brightly into my room. Sitting up my stomach was instantly in knots as I realized this was the big day. The day I leave for a place I've never been, surrounded by people I've never met. My new kitten crawled into my lap purring and nudging my hand. She had long beautiful almost silver fur with Crystal blue eyes. I decided to name her Celeste. I stood up and did a few stretches before headed to my bathroom and stepping into the bath.  I closed my eyes letting the steam surround me. Trying to shake the nerves that were getting to me. Once I calmed a little I finished my bath, stepping out and drying off. I looked in the mirror, determination clear on my face. "You can do this Lana. The school is supposed to be beautiful. The people will be nice. You'll make friends and it'll be a great year" I said to myself until I finally got my confidence back. I smiled brightly as I headed back to my room and got dressed. I finished packing my trunk and brought it to the bottom of the stairs, running off to the kitchen and stuffing my face as fast as I could.
"Slow down" my father laughed as he watched me "the train doesn't leave until 11"
"I can't help it papa!! I'm just so excited! I never imagined I'd be going to the same school you attended! Oh!! I wonder what house will be in!!! Think I'll be in Hufflepuff like you??" I asked still devouring my breakfast.  He laughs again and answers "You certainly do have Hufflepuff qualities." He looks out the window smiling "Whatever house you're put in you'll do great. People will tell you that one house is better than the other's but they're each great in their own way"

We chatted a bit as we finished breakfast. It was 10:15 now as we headed out the door and rode to the train station.
"This cant be correct papa"
"Hm?" He glanced over to see what I was talking about.
"This ticket. It says 9 3/4, but that cant be..... can it?" I looked over at him, curiosity wrote all over my face "I've never heard of that"
He laughed and looked ahead as we neared platforms 9&10.
"Okay, Lana. Hold onto the trolley and when I say so,  close your eyes and run"
"But papa.."
"One"
"Papa there's a...."
"Two"
"Wall!!!!"
"Run!"
I screamed slightly as my father and I ran straight into...... nothing? I opened my eyes and it was as if we'd entered another station. What I assumed to be young witches and wizards all saying their goodbyes to their family and boarding the train. I turned to my father, tears welling up, threatening to spill over. I jumped towards him, wrapping my arms around his neck, giving him one last hug before leaving him. "Promise me you'll write me often papa!!"
"Of course I will.  I love you Lana." He replied. Smiling at me her wipes my tears "You'll do great. You're going to be very talented and make so many friends I just know it. So stay strong, and smile, and  Never forget the most important thing.  Just be yourself" and with that we waved goodbye. I composed myself, put on the brightest smile that I could, and loaded my trunk onto the train before boarding myself. I stumbled down the walkway glancing into compartments hoping to find one that wasn't full. I don't know if it was chance or fate, but the very last compartment I came across had only one student in it.  That student, was none other, than the boy I'd bumped into at Diagon Alley.  Tom Riddle. I gently opened the compartment, causing him to glance in my direction.   I put on the most confident smile I could and said
"All of the other's are full, would you mind if I sat here?"
He ignored me and turned his attention back to the window. I sat down, momentarily looking at my hands and fidgeting with my mother's bracelet.
"So...."I started, looking back up at the boy across from me with a gentle smile.
"Is this your first year as well?"
"Yes," he half responded not paying much attention to my presence.
"Exciting isn't it? I can't wait to see what it's like. I've heard Hogwarts is breathtaking!! What about you? I bet you're excited!" He looked over at me with that look again, almost like I'm an equation he's trying solve. "Don't you have anyone else to bother miss... Belmore was it?"
I was taken aback by this comment but smiled gently looking at my bracelet.
"Oh.. I wasn't trying to bother you Tom, I'm sorry.  You're just the first person that I've met who is attending Hogwarts. I just wanted to be your friend." He looked me over one more time before returning his attention back out the window. We sat in silence for the rest of  the train ride. When we were close I changed into my Hogwarts uniform smiling At my reflection before returning to the compartment Tom and I shared. As the train arrived at our destination the butterflies in my stomach returned and I jumped up in excitement.
"Here we go!" I whispered to myself as I exited behind Tom. We made our way to the boats and were one of the first to load into a boat. I was in awe as we glided over the lantern-lit lake. Staring at my future. The beautiful, HUGE, castle like building. Hogwarts. The boat stopped and we were helped onto land. We all filed into the hall slowly, waiting at the entrance to the great hall. We were informed of the sorting process as everyone but the first years settled down at their tables chatting amongst themselves. The doors were opened and we headed up to the front in lines of 2 until all of the first years were standing in front of a stool with an old run down hat sitting upon it. One by one names were called and put into their proper houses. I had only been half paying attention. Suddenly my attention was caught when I heard a familiar name be called.
"Riddle, Tom"
I saw him go up to the stool with a confident stride. I waved with a sincere smile as he looked out ahead waiting for the hat to be placed. His eyebrow rose slightly at me for a split second before...
"SLYTHERIN!"
I clapped along with the whole Slytherin table who seemed to go into an uproar whenever they gained a new student. A few more students were called before...
"Belmore, Lana"
