Over the next few months, Patricia was completely absorbed with Ethan, and Logan was focusing hard on quidditch, so I'd managed to spend more time with Tom. We'd sit in our spot to read or study. Check out the library, usually looking for more books for Tom. And lately he'd been teaching me about some of the dark arts that he found fascinating. I'd learned that he did get the answers to what he wanted, though i never really asked what it was. I figured if Tom wanted me to know he'd tell me on his own time. It was a nice Saturday in March, I'd decided to spend it with Tom. He'd mentioned wanting to show me something recently. We met in the usual spot. He nodded at me to follow him, and i did just that. We wandered the many twists and turns of the corridors before coming up on a set of doors I'd never seen before. He opened it hastily and we both entered, him closing the door behind me. I looked around, taking in the room around me. The walls were bare stone. To the right there was a loveseat sitting across from a fireplace. Further back was a desk and chair. In the back middle of the room was a fairly decent sized bed. A window sat by the bed. The wardrobe was to the left. It was certainly a cozy room. A blush rose to my cheeks realizing i was alone, in a room, with the boy I'd developed feelings for. I shook the thought and looked over at him confused.
"They gave me it this year. There was an... accident. At the orphanage."
"Oh! Well it's wonderful Tom! I bet you enjoy being away from people when you please."
I smiled sweetly as i made my way over to him. He motioned for us to sit on the loveseat as he brought over a book.
"I've been reading up on something lately that i think you might find interesting."
He took my silence as a sign to continue.
"You see, i have this... Ability, of sorts. One That isn't exactly common. I'm a Parseltongue. I can talk to and control snakes. Well, I was reading about the founders, of Hogwarts. There's one, i found rather intriguing."
He hands me the book her was holding. It was opened on Salazar Slytherin. I began to read, getting more engrossed by the second.
"Do you think you could be related to him? It says here that the heirs of Salazar were also likely to be Parseltongue's."
"It's certainly a possibility."
We spent the next few hours sitting on his loveseat, both of us reading books. I tried to ignore how close he was. My heart jumped everytime he'd look in my direction. My breath hitched every time that his hand or leg bumped me. I probably read the same paragraph a hundred times, yet i couldn't even tell you a word that's in it. After a while i got pretty hungry so i excused myself and went to The great hall. My face was probably as red as a tomato as i tried to push my thoughts aside.A few weeks had passed since then. Tom seemed to be a bit distanced lately, though i didn't pay much attention to it. He got this way when he was deep into some book involving the dark arts. I was sitting in the great hall at the Hufflepuff table during breakfast, when my father's owl dropped a letter into my Lap. I frowned upon reading it. He said he wasn't able to spend the summer with me because of work and that he was terribly sorry.
'Sigh... same as Christmas...'
Suddenly a pair of hands covered my eyes and a voice softly whispered in my ear.
"Guess who."
I giggled and grabbed his hands.
"You're up early Logan."
He chuckled and sat beside me.
"Geez no foolin you huh?"
"Nope, I'm onto your tricks mister."
His smile turned soft.
"Hey, something wrong?"
"Actually... i received this from Papa a few moments ago.."
I handed him the letter, i could have sworn a faint blush appeared on his face as our hands brushed together. He read over it then looked over at me, smiling brightly.
"Hey, it's okay! Why don't you come stay with me? My parents would probably love to hear about the summers you and your father traveled."
"Well..."
"Come on Lana, it'll be fun! We have a guest room and I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind writing and asking your father."
"Okay. That sounds fun."
I turned and hugged him tightly, whispering a thank you in his ear. I really wasn't looking forward to another Holiday where i was basically alone. Sure Tom would be there, but he wouldn't want me hanging around him 24/7. Tom likes his space. And it would definitely be fun to meet Logan's family. We sat there chatting for a while until he excused himself to go to his quidditch practice.I was sitting at the tree I'd grown so comfortable of. My mind drifted off to an argument Tom and i had once.
'I was conceived under a love potion. Those in that particular situation can not feel, nor can they love. You're wasting your time...'
I shook my head trying to fight back tears.
'No. That's never been proven. Tom could love if it was the right person...'
I battled back and forth with my thoughts for a while. After a bit i decided to get my mind off of anything Tom related. I stood up and made my way to the quidditch area. I made myself comfortable and watched them practice. Logan really was a great chaser. I watched as he scored goal after goal. I cheered out, gaining his attention. He waved and sent me a goofy grin. I waved back before he started showing off his broom skills. Next thing i knew the captain was flying after him. I giggled watching him narrowly escape. After a while they landed and Logan got a stern scolding. I couldn't help but laugh, he looked just like a kid being scolded by his mum. I made my way down as they had separated. He grinned again and i giggled.
"You know, you have practice for a reason."
"Nonsense, did you see me? I'm brilliant!"
I shoved him playfully before he went to change. He yelled back at me on his way.
"Hey wait here for me okay?"
A few moments later he came back and placed his arm over my shoulder.
"You know, you should really come to one of my games. It'd make me really happy knowing you're there cheering me on."
"Well, okay. I'll go to one soon then."
"Brilliant! Well, what do you say we head to the owlry? I have to send out that letter to my parents asking about summer vacation."
"Sure, i was going to send one to papa today anyway."
We headed up to the owlry, his arm still wrapped around my shoulder. When we got to the top we both sat down, writing our letters. I'd told papa that it was okay and that i may have gotten invited some where for the summer. I told him that a friends parents would be mailing him soon if that was the case. As i was giving the letter to the owl, Logan was just finishing up his. He smiled at me and handed his to his family's owl.
"Don't worry Lana. My family's great, they'll really love you."
I smiled back and we sent our owls off.The following Monday i was sitting in potions beside Tom. Slughorn had announced that we were to be making Amortentia. The love potion. I frowned slightly, not knowing how this might effect Tom. The one thing i did know, was the scent of it was different for every person. It was all what attracted them. We both worked quietly. I wasn't sure exactly what to say... Or what he was thinking at the moment. When we finished i looked at the potion, it was a pearly pink color. It smelled of an Autumn breeze, fresh books, and... I blushed, realizing just what the last thing was that i smelled.... Tom... When class was over i ran out of the room, face beet red, straight to my next class.
~Logan POV~
Ethan and i had just finished the potion. It fit the description. Pearly pink in color. Spiraling steam. The scent was that of.... coconut... cherry.. and... i blushed a deep red and looked over at Lana.
'Maybe, just maybe, over the summer you'll see how good for you i can be....'~Lana POV~
I avoided Tom for the rest of the day. I knew i couldn't avoid blushing if i saw him.
'Ugh, get it together Lana... It's just Tom... He doesn't even feel that way...'
"Lana, you okay?"
I looked up surprised, then smiled gently.
"Yes, why?"
"Well you ran out of potions so fast i couldn't even catch up to you."
"Sorry Logan, i just wanted to get to class a little early today to discuss an upcoming test with the teacher."
I could tell he knew that i wasn't being honest but he decided not to pry and sat beside me. We chatted until curfew.
'Time really seems to fly by when you're around..'
