Angel and Raine insisted they film me and Shianne next. I didn't really mind, but Shianne did. So she made arrangements to hang out with her boyfriend after school. I didn't care at this point. She did this a lot--home was kind of boring with our parents gone.
Shianne always told me that Mom dying was my fault. I believed her. If I was never born, Mom would be here. Dad killed himself a year ago. He said that he was tired of being reminded of Mom. And he couldn't find a new wife to make him happy. So yeah--in Shianne's eyes--I killed our parents.
When lunch rolled around, I sat at the usual table of just me. The first few days of school were always tough for me. I was picking at my salad when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to find a guy with brown hair and brown eyes standing by me with a smile on his face.
"I'm Jack," he stuck out his hand. [AN: Jack Higgins: Brown hair, brown eyes, five foot seven, lives with both parents, 17, born Feburary 11, 1994]
"I'm Kourtney," I smiled shaking his hand.
"Mind if I join you?" he asked.
"Oh, sure, sit," I nodded.
He sat across from me and looked around. "Big school."
"Are you new or something?" I asked.
"Yeah. It's my first day," he shrugged.
"Well, it's not that hard once you get used to it," I assured him. "Where did you move from?"
"Atlanta. My dad's job transfered us here," he said.
"What does your dad do?" I asked him.
"He's a truck driver. I don't get to see him a lot, but I love him. And my mom is a stay-at-home mom."
"That's nice," I nodded.
"What about your parents?" he asked.
I laughed awkwardly and shook my head. "I don't have any."
"I'm sorry. Do you want to talk about it?" he asked.
"No, I don't want to make your first day a sad day," I smiled.
He laughed and played along. "Okay. But surely you have a sibling or something, right?"
"I have an older sister named Shianne. She's seventeen," I nodded.
"Me too," he said.
"Oh, well, I'm sixteen," I laughed.
"That's fun," he encouraged.
"Hey, why don't you come over tonight? There's this school project in video class where we get into a group and film each other's lives. My sister has plans with her boyfriend, but Raine and Angel will be there," I offered.
"Sure, that sounds like fun," he nodded.
"You have your phone on you?" I asked.
He pulled out his phone and handed it to me. I put my number in and went to his notes and saved my address. I handed it back to him and he smiled at me. The bell rang and he stood.
"I'll see you tonight," he said.
"Okay," I smiled and went on with the rest of the day.
When I got home, I waited for Raine and Angel to show up. Shianne had left school with her boyfriend. I was excited for Jack to come over. He seemed nice. I made something to eat and heard the door knock. I opened it and Raine and Angel were there.
