Chapter 10

Ana keeps drifting in and out of consciousness. We have laid her on the brown, leather sofa sitting in the middle of the apartment. I had to carry her fragile body home and away from the demon. I don't have a clue how one could sneak past our radar like that. Another question pops into my mind. Of all people why would it target, Ana? We are always so careful to keep a close watch on demons so they don't trespass. Luckily we've driven most of them out, including the Fairies. Fairies. I shiver at the disgusting word. They are tricky, manipulative and magical creatures that lure you in with their beauty. They each have their own set of wings. They are often different colours and shapes depending on what magic they posses. I've never actually met one myself but I've learned that once you lay eyes on one, you're doomed. They use enchantments to entrap you within their mind games. I think it's all a myth myself.

Grabbing a thick blanket out of the cupboard, I lay it over Ana's body. She's had a major shock and I hope she doesn't have too many questions when she finally wakes up. I couldn't tell her much even if I wanted too. We are sworn to secrecy to defend our kind. I sit down on the edge of the sofa, watching her. She starts to stir and mumbles something in her sleep. Gazing at her closely I try to take in what she's saying. All I can think about is how much danger she was in last night and how I wasn't there to protect her.

I shake my head and I clench my jaw at the thought of anything happening to her because of me. I'm so glad we got there in time or God knows what could of happened. I will just have to keep a closer watch. Make sure she's safe. I look around at the huge glass window that looks out on Devour City and watch the night sky gleam down on me. One of the perks of owning the penthouse suite. The sky shines a dark blue with magnificent stars shining in-between. Fabian's door opens as he steps out in his pyjamas.

"Still up?" He yawns, rubbing his eyes.

"Yeah, I couldn't leave her." I look down at a sleeping Ana.

"Man, you got it bad." He shakes his head and smirks. I go to put him in his place but Riley walks out of his own room, wearing nothing but a bed sheet covering the vital areas. I raise an eyebrow and Fabian stops dead in his tracks to the bathroom.

"Will you keep it down, I got a girl in here!" Riley scowls at us. That explains the bed sheet.

"When do you ever not have a girl in there?" Fabian chuckles and shuts the bathroom door behind him.

"The man has a point." Riley laughs and slams his bedroom door shut, winking at me. I hear a giggle coming from his room and shake my head laughing. At least one of us is getting some.

I lean back against the sofa and start to drift off. I keep a close eye on Ana until tiredness starts to overcome me.

"What do you think you're doing?!" A shriek wakes me.

"What?" I look around and a hand collides with my face. I take my own hand to the intense burning on my cheek. Damn that hurt. What the hell have I done now?

As I blink into focus, I lay next to Ana on the sofa where I must have fallen asleep. My arm is draped over her body as she whips the covers off the both of us.

"I said, what do you think you're doing?" She sits up staring at me with wide eyes. I laugh and sit up.

"I think I saved your life, that's what I was doing." I rub my eyes and yawn.

"So you took me back to your place and slept with me?" Her eyes are wild with confusion.

"I didn't intentionally sleep next to you. I accidentally fell asleep."

"I don't believe you." She throws the cover at me and stands up.

"You're welcome by the way." I say sitting up, hiding a grin. God, she's cute when she's angry. She rolls her eyes and searches around for her stuff.

"Your bag is on top of the cupboard, your coat is hanging on the back of the door and your shoes are over there." I point to a wooden bookshelf.

She opens her mouth and closes it again deciding not to argue. Fabian walks out of his room and Ana's mouth drops open.
