Marie's POV
"So how long have you lived here," he asked me. I know he is just trying to make light conversation but I really don't feel like talking right now.
"I've lived here all my life, I just moved out to live on my own a couple months ago," I reply.
"Ohh ok, well you don't sound like you're from around here," he says back, referring to my slight Jersey accent.
"I've been places," Is all I say. A year ago me and my best friends Russie and Nicole went to New Jersey. We stayed longer than intened, long enough to slightly pick up the accent. After a long awkward pause he speaks yet again.
"Well if you ever need a ride, just let me know," he says. I hadn't realized that we pulled into the parking lot of my apartment.
"Yeah of course," I say making an empty promise.
"I know this is a dumb question to ask since I just met you but can I have your number, I really do want you to call me the next time you need a ride," He said, genuinely concerned. We switched phones, put in our numbers, and switched back.
"Thanks for the ride," I said getting out of the car.
"My pleasure," he said with the sweetest smile I've ever seen.
I didn't want to admit it while I was in the car with him, but he was very good looking. His dark skin, the same shade as mine, his curly hair, not to mention he was at least 6'3. I actually can't wait to talk to him again, but of course I can't make the first move.
I unlock my door and head to my room. I'm super tired but I have to work in the morning. I rush to take my shower and lay out my work clothes.
'Damn it,' I think to myself. I might have to make the first move after all. My car is in the shop and I don't have a ride. Deep down, im actually glad that I get to call him, but I dont know why. I dont even know him.
"LaShawn," I ask when I hear a voice on the other end.
"Marie?" he answers.
"Yeah...umm I need a ride in the morning if you don't mind," I can hear the smile in his voice as he says. "No, I dont mind at all."
"Well I have to be at work by 8:30," I reply.
"Where do you work exactly," he wonders.
"Nike Town."
"Ok, well I'll be there at 7:45. You know how New York traffic is," he says playfully.
"Haha, of course, well I'll see you tomorrow, thanks so much," I say and hang up. I can't believe I am looking forward to 7:45 tomorrow morning.
