Melody
Marissa led the way through the airport. It was a good thing too. It was a huge place, and people were everywhere. Many I couldn't help but stare at. Maybe this is how my dad felt when we moved to Tennessee from Windsor,Ontario. I was too young to remember anything myself but I do remember telling everyone I was Canadian and my dad telling me to stop running off. But that couldn't be close to this. I'm 18 now, and I'm in Las Angeles, California. I'm letting a stranger I met hours ago give me a home, temporarily, and I'm leaving everything behind me to work for a crazy career even though I haven't finished high school. This is going to be crazy.
Marissa zigzagged through a crowd of people and I followed behind like a little duck. I sure felt like an ugly duckling. Being in the south as long as I was the cowboy boots had rubbed of on me. They were comfy and sometimes stylish, but very out of place to all the sky high heels, and thousand dollar sneakers around me now. You'd see neither in Canada or Tennessee.
"First place I'm taking you after we get settled is a shoe store."
"Why's that?" I knew the answer.
"Those are great in Tennessee studios but here in LA you'll need something different."
I'm seeing that this is her nice way of telling me everyone will hate these. "I have Vans too."
"Are they with you? Because people are starring."
I blushed, "In my luggage." I told her.
"We need to get to baggage claim fast then."
"Maybe they're starring at you, you did write a pretty good book."
"No one stares at the author until their book is on a movie screen."
"I'd have to disagree."
"You don't know Hollywood yet sweetie. It'll change so much more than you think."
"It won't change me."
"That's a good plan to stick too, it'll be hard but people will like you more when you get bigger."
I laughed as grabbed my bag. I was actually doing this.

I never thought I'd actually be using my job at the bank to track someone's whereabouts. Especially my best friends's whereabouts. I actually didn't even have to come in today. My mom will be pissed I didn't show at the Art Barn but I don't care. I can't care. She understands anyway. Plus Collin has rings like Jupiter under his eyes and a 21 year old collage kid shouldn't look anything like he did this morning. He'll thank me later.
Or now. I thought as I saw Melody's last transaction. I quickly glanced my shoulder to make sure no one was in eyes view. I clicked the transaction for more information. She was going to Las Angeles. We had talked about this once my senior year. She was a freshman then I told her she was crazy for wanting to go to California. I told her it'd be hard for her to make it out there. She proved me wrong when I watched her band perform at the school's small talent show. The band had long since broken up but Melody found herself getting help from a couple of seniors every Wednesday night to sneak out to entertain a bar. Luckily my job at Art Barn and my part time job at the bank had given me many views of IDs and how to print them. I still wonder how any bartender believed 15 year old Melody looked 21. I barely look legal now and I'm 21. But that girls has the worser side of life with a hint of luck every now and then. And now Collin is getting his hint.
After ending my investigation, I rushed through the last hour of my short volunteered shift. It couldn't have pasted fasted enough. But after sending a quick text to Collin I got a reply telling me to go back inside and get info he may need for the trip out there. I really wanted to watch Melody fall in love again the moment she heard the truth, but I know that Melody will be persistent to running this time.So I'm racing to Collins hotel room across town to take him to the airport.
~An hour later~
"Collin," I ran to him. "Are you sure you want to go, we literally don't have any other leads as to where she may be."
"I know but she'll run to China if she thinks she has too."
"But you have no idea where she may be."
"Somewhere in LA." He told and ran off before I could try to respond.
"Good luck," I mumbled and and took my car out of park, "You'll need it."
