It was morning.
"Wake up!" Some guy said in a friendly tone.
I wasn't sure who it was. I opened my eyes and saw this man I have never seen before. He was about 5'10. He had black hair, dark eyes, and a black mustache.
I sat up, rubbing my eyes. Clementine woke up as well. We were both in our sleeping bags. It must have been a cold night.
"How did you to sleep?" Said the stranger.
"Good!" I responded.
"Arg... I'm so itchy" Clementine complained.
"Well you did sleep in a barn last night, your lucky you don't have spiders in your hair!" The stranger said humorously.
"What?!" Clementine said, getting nervous and checking her hair.
"Awe.. I'm just messing with ya! My name is Kenny."
"I'm Lee, and this is Clementine." I said introducing ourselves.
"Nice to meet y'all! Now you two get ready, I think Hershel has some breakfast for us. You might want to hurry!" Kenny said.
"Okay.. Yeah, well be ready in a minute. I said.
Kenny left. Clem and I got dressed. My clothes were pretty gross from the last few days. Clementine's clothes weren't too bad but I could tell that she wanted a clean pair. We put our clothes on followed by our shoes.
"Okay Clem, are you ready?" I asked patiently.
"Yeah.. Just let me finish getting on my shoe.... there! I'm all ready Lee!" She said.
"Good, now let's go on out. I think that Kenny guy is waiting for us." I said.
"Okay." Clementine said.
We walked out of the big barn. Kenny was just waiting outside for us.
"So, when did you two show up?" Kenny asked.
"Yesterday evening." I said
"Oh okay, I arrived with my wife and son. I think they are in the house having something to eat. Come on in, I'll introduce you to them." Kenny said.
We followed Kenny into the farm house. Clementine held my hand. Once we walked into the house, Hershel greeted us while Kenny made his way to the dining room.
"Wow, you two smell like a barn." He said jokingly.
I smiled. "Well you smell like a house." I joked back.
Hershel smiled. " Well I've got some breakfast for you two if your interested." Hershel said. "Its not a lot but its something."
"Thanks Hershel. I just hope we aren't taking advantage of you."
"Look, I know your good people. I know you wouldn't steal from me or tell others about me so they can take all my food and supplies."
I was shocked about how much he trusted us. He barely knew us. I hope he thought he thought the same about Kenny and his family.
"Well.. Thanks Hershel. We would never betray you. You have been very good to us. If there is anything I could do to repay you please let me know." I explained.
Hershel smiled as if he had something in mind then said, "let's get you two some breakfast. "
We followed Hershel to the dining room. We found Kenny and his family sitting eating breakfast. Clem and I sat across from them.
"Hey guys." This is my wife Katjaa and this is my son, Duck." Kenny said introducing his family to us.
Katjaa was about 5'9. She had dirty blond hair with blue eyes. She wasn't exactly slim and trim but she wasn't terribly overweight either.
Duck had black hair and dark eyes. He looked like he was around the same age as Clementine.
"And this is Lee and Clementine." Kenny said, introducing us to his family.
"Hi" Clem and I said.
Katjaa and duck also said hi to us warmly. Then Hershel came in with some food for Clem and I.
"Here's some powered eggs and some hot chocolate." Hershel said handing us the food.
"Whoa, thanks!" I said accepting the food happily.
"Yeah" Hershel responded.
I gave Clem her plate along with the hot chocolate. She began to eat. Then I served myself. Hershel seated himself at the end of the table. Shawn at the other end.
"Okay, everybody. I don't exactly have enough food for everybody to last for a while. Since I have provided food and a bed for everyone, I would expect to be paid back."
"I agree." Kenny said.
"Well how do you propose we pay you back?" I asked.
"Well, I propose that you help to reinforce the fence around my house and barn. It shouldn't be too hard, your basically just patching up large holes in the fence so the walkers can't get in." Hershel explained.
"Ill help." Shawn said.
"Okay sounds good." Kenny said.
"Yeah we will start after we are done." I added. "Don't want to have to work at night if we can avoid it."
"Lee is right." Kenny said agreeing with me
"Do a good job, I can't afford to have walkers invading my property." Hershel said.
"Don't worry, well take care of it." I said.
"Just show us what exactly you want us to do and we'll make this place a no walker zone!" Kenny said.
"Ill show you. Everyone needs to be careful for the occasional walker. Sometimes they appear when you least expect it. We don't want anyone getting hurt." Shawn warned.
We finished our powered eggs. I noticed Clem wasn't to fond of them. She seemed to be eating them but slowly. I didn't like them much either but I slowly got them down.
