This chapter was inspired by the song "Dawn Will Rise" by Thirty Seconds to Mars. Feel free to listen while reading!

"Kerri!" My mom called from downstairs. The shrill sound of my mom yelling could burst through any closed door or wall.

I begrudgingly walked down the steps to see Mr. Leto sitting next to my mom on the couch. I sat in the chair opposite them. Boy this seemed familiar.

"Mr. Leto tells me that he found you and Derek here. Alone?  Is this true?" she cocked her head as she waited for my response. Entrapping me, basically pushing me into a corner.

"Yes, but-"

"And why didn't you tell me?"

"We were discussing our science fair project together."

Mr. Leto slowly cleared his throat, nearly cutting me off. I glared at him as he sat smugly next to my mom who narrowed her eyes at me.

"Boyfriend now, from what I've heard." She looked over to Mr. Leto who tilted his head acknowledging her.

I rolled my eyes. He's the bane of my existence right now.

I just wanted to smack him in his perfect little face, but I couldn't. If only my mom wasn't here...

"Well, I think we need to have a little talk. Jared, thank you for informing me about this." She subtly dismissed him.

"It's no problem. That's what I'm here for." He winked.

Ugh.

"Glad to have you around."Mom said smiling.

"Yeah, it's funny how he's always around." I said, dragging out the word with a passion.

His eyes cut to mine sharply.
