This chapter was inspired by the song "Wild Heart" by Spelles. Feel free to listen as you read! Please feel free to listen as you read! Time for the finale. So excited to wrap this story up after 3 years and 3 months!

I blinked my eyes open. My head was so heavy, my eye lids full to the brim. Was this a dream? I looked around into the faint darkness from the evening settling in, but nothing about this room was instantly familiar. All I could smell was a dank musty odor, and dust. As I lifted my head, I felt constrained by my arms. In my dizzy stupor, I realized my hands were tied in a chair. I squeezed my eyes shut, praying that help would come or maybe Derek was on his way with help? I kept flushing different scenarios of rescue in my mind.

I looked further out to the room and saw the same shape as when I was looking through the window of this very house. It was the same shape earlier of woman slumped, that woman being Ms. Ryder. Her hands were were also tied behind her back and her mouth was tied up, her head hung over her slumped body.

My eyes watered as I faced the reality that I feared. But then her head started to sway back and forth almost rhythmic as a pendulum, until she finally found the strength to look up - like she could feel my presence, feel me looking at her. Her eyes stretched wide with fear once she saw me. She started wailing beneath her cloth, looking directly at someone but I couldn't see them.

I followed Ms. Ryder's fearful gaze, craning my neck in the darkness to see Mr. Leto, neat as a pin, untouched, unharmed, of course. Not a scratch on him.  He had just turned on a nearby lamp, illuminating  what looks like the living room. He was across form me, seated with his knees up and legs crossed just at his ankles. With his elbow resting on his knee, he rubbed his index finger with his thumb meditatively as he scrolled through my phone.

"Oh Kerri, you tried so hard, dear

"Oh Kerri, you tried so hard, dear. It's rather admirable." He said before throwing my phone across the room. "You're awake, and just in time." It's like he'd been waiting for this moment.

"Are you crazy? What is this, Mr. Leto?"

"Oh dear, you know exactly what's happening."

"But what's Ms. Ryder doing here? She wasn't supposed to be here until-"

"Tomorrow? I know, but plans change and things...come up."  he alluded.

I shift my eyes to Ms. Ryder suspiciously, but she wouldn't have leaked any information to Mr. Leto, especially after the talk we had with the Detective.

"Oh no sweetie, she didn't tell me about your 'plan.'" He said reading my mind effortlessly.

I stared at him, dumbfounded.

"That's right, Kerri. I figured it all out. And you're good - I'll give you that But you know what gave you away? Just a tiny little mistake on your end." His question was rhetorical and even so, I had no answer I could fathom.
