Month Two, Year One

Scavenging had its advantages, Silas was able to keep his own hours doing it in the middle of the night or day, he was also guaranteed to find something of use every time he went out & whatever resources he wasted getting around were always replenished with extra to spare.

Right now, Silas was rummaging through a nice house in the town of Foster a small farming community where he had branched out into. So far, he had only done a few blocks around the outskirts of the town with the entire towns centre still to go. He had been scavenging from this town for almost a week now starting the day after he lost his finger but the loss of the finger hadn't obstructed him much since it was the index finger on his left hand.

Throughout the week, he had found so much stuff that he already had a pile full back at the compound, he found cigarettes, toiletries, kitchenware, food, electronics, medicines, furniture, DVD's, videogames anything and everything that he could have desired. On the third day, he even found a glossy black Suburban but hadn't been able to grab it just yet, but he knew that that car was his.

Clearing the last house on the block, an ultra-modern double story house. The first thing he noticed was a low humming sound that brought back a familiar sense of stability, following the sound to the source he came to a chest-freezer that still had the motor running and as he touched the box he felt frozen metal boxing, something that he wasn't sure he would feel again.

Clinching his fist then opening up the fridge, a puff of frozen air escaped and blanketed him until the cloud dispersed and his eyes were taken to the contents inside the box, sitting on display were meats, bacon stripes, sausages, party pies, sausage rolls, lamb, chicken all the good stuff but all the stuff that would quickly go off if he was to take it with him.

Closing the chest-freezer, Silas moved off and rummaged through the rest of the house getting whatever looked good which was a box full of electronics including the televisions, a bag full of medicine and cosmetic items from the bathrooms and kitchen, the clothing from all the rooms & an empty work trunk.

After packing all of his score into the truck Silas felt an urge to go back and admire the preserved pieces of meat so heading back into the house he went straight back to the chest-freezer and opening it up his mind became clear and he had an answer for what he should do with his finding.

'That should work... at least until we get some proper equipment.' Jacob Shepard.

Jacob was sitting at his desk with Malcom Lovecraft on the other side, they were talking about the irrigation on Malcom's farm and how there had been a pipe burst (again) that needed attention right now.

'Yeah okay, what if it happens again though? The pipes won't last forever.' Malcom Lovecraft.

'I know but we've already promised the only other irrigation system to Laura and her farm, if you want I can have Reye look over Laura's old irrigation system and see if there is anything that she can salvage but that may take a little.' Jacob Shepard.

'Yes, that would be great but if I can't have an irrigation system, do you mind putting on a few more people onto my farm just until it gets fixed... at least that way they can pump up the water and all the crops can still be getting the water they need?' Malcom Lovecraft.

Jacob looked over the sheets of paper on his table all contained a list of the students and what their current positions were, with a majority working on the farms trying to get the crops ready before the winter.
