Month Seven, Year One

Laid-out in his bed unable to move due to the intense pain that shot through his entire body, Lionel Borowitz waited for a miracle to come and take away his handicap, Lionel had been the only one of his friends to survive the onslaught of the seniors who massacred his friends and blew apart his hands and arms, making him a fucking cripple. Hoovering over him were his arms that had been bandaged up with massive red splotches of blood pooling out of the tiny wounds made by the pellets of the shotgun, his arms were kept up by a bunch of strings that were attached to a frame that had been specially made for him.
From the position they had placed him, he had a clear view of everything that happened in the atrium and what he saw there delighted him beyond belief. He was watching as everyone slowly starved, his near perfect memory allowed for him to see everyone before the Event when they were healthy glowing young adults and now they were husks of their former selves. Their skin held tighten around their jaw lines making them become more pronounced, and already most of the over-weight students had died due to the drastic change in their diets.
And the best part was the Student Council could do nothing to stop the starvation, no matter how desperately they tried to. It was too dangerous to go wandering outside, even now Lionel could hear the blizzard outside making travel impossible, so they couldn't run to Silas Chapman to bargain for food, which meant they were left their rations which were a few days from running out.
If he was to die sometime soon he took comfort in knowing that all of these people would soon be following him into the deepest depths of Hades.

It was almost scary how fast things had turned Jacob thought to himself. the quarter rations were starting to catch up with people and now they looked like zombies, even Jacob and the other Student Councillors looked malnourished, but this is what they had to do.
There was a part of him that was glad his parents were not here to see him mess up so badly, he could see how disappointed they would be with him. He wondered how the other parents would glare at him because of the choices he had made and how they affect their kids. Jacob knew it wasn't the brightest idea to beat himself up about it but he believed reflection was good for the soul, no matter how dark the thought went or how self-abashing they were.
It was the oddest thing though, this entire situation, every student falling asleep and waking up at the same time, every other person disappearing, everything that has happened since then, all the bad luck and terrible timing that has nearly thrown Whitefall into the toilet more than once. He only believed in god for the bad things that happened, and right now Jacob was sticking his middle finger straight up at the grey-haired, robe wearing fucker.
Shaking his head, Jacob had let himself get carried away on a train of thought that was no good to anyone, although today was a terrible day they still had a weeks' worth of rations left and between now and then there was bound to be a day good enough to travel in so they could bargain with Silas and give him an offer he couldn't refuse, no matter what Georgi's policy on bargaining with Silas was. Unfortunately, Jacob had no idea what that offer was yet, but it would be something even Silas wouldn't be able to say no to.
Waking up the next day Jacob done his usual routine, it was as he brushed his teeth that his gaze drifted outside, his eyes bulged and he nearly hurried himself along when he seen the conditions outside as the horrific grey and black clouds rushed across the sky, but no snow had fallen in hours giving them a window of time to work with. He had little care for what Georgi wanted, if she would further demote him then so be it, although he would use that to reclaim his position by reenergising the populace on his side. But right now, that populace needed to be fed.
