~ summary: you are insanely close to having an anxiety attack at a party when ethan swoops in and saves the day ~

———————————————————————

You hated parties.

You hated the idea of them, you hated the point of them, and most of all, you hated going to them.

As a person who was overly anxious and had frequent anxiety attacks, you didn't like being in an environment full of toxic people. The only way you would consider going to one was if your closest friend Jackie promised to go with you.

She kept you from having an attack just by being herself. Her presence was so calming, her words were so soothing. You were lucky to have her in your life.

The party she took you to was the one party that was a bad idea. At midnight, everyone would kiss the person they've been crushing on for months or been in love with for years. Almost everyone loved that party because it sparked lots of drama. A single guy would kiss a taken girl, starting a fight between the guy and her boyfriend. A taken guy would kiss a single girl, causing the girlfriend to have a mental breakdown and cuss him out in front of everyone.

You had to admit, it was pretty entertaining.

———

You walked in the door and music and chatter flooded out of the house. People were dancing, gossiping in the kitchen, and getting drunk playing beer pong in the dining room.

You could already feel the room closing in on you but it opened up almost immediately when your gaze landed on Ethan Dolan.

He was standing at the back talking with two of his friends. You had been crushing on him since middle school but he was far too popular for you. You would 100% kiss him at midnight, but if he rejected you, the embarrassment would give you the worst anxiety attack of your life. So, you would have to rely on him to make a move on you, but you knew that chance was slim.

You two weren't complete strangers, though. You and Ethan were partners for multiple projects that past school year and had four classes together. You talked often so you considered yourselves to be pretty close.

You were head over heels for him but you would never, ever tell him that.

You walked past Ethan and into the kitchen, making full-on eye contact with him, which made you tingle.

You could still feel his stare on you as you exited his sight line into the almost empty kitchen, aside from a small group of teenage girls spilling verbal tea. You had to excuse yourself and slide through the group to get to the fridge and grab a water.

You walked back out and they merged back together. You stood on the side next to Jackie and sipped your water.

Your name popped up in the girls' conversation but you pretended you weren't listening so you could eavesdrop.

"She's pretty," one girl whispered, making you smile as you took a sip from your water bottle.

"Doesn't she have anxiety attacks?" the girl next to her replied.

There were a few nods and a few shrugs from the group.

"I heard that Ethan's really into her," another said, making your heart beat way faster than normal.

You sucked down the rest of your water, her words making your stomach leap. It was probably just a rumor. You knew how teenage girls were. They probably made it up on the spot.
