~ summary: you accidentally fall in love with a castle staff member, even though you're supposed to fall in love with someone else ~

———————————————————————

Most little girls dream of being a princess and living in a magical castle, but that was just an unrealistic childhood dream. In reality, it wasn't as free and perfect as a young kid expected. How did you know? Well, because you were a princess.

As a high-ranking member of the Y/L/N royal family, you met with many other villages and kingdoms to discuss alliances and peace treatys. But there was one particular royal family that came to your kingdom, which was very strange because you were so used to travelling to other places instead of having them come to you.

———

The grand front doors opened and chatter could be heard coming from downstairs. You carefully stepped down the marble staircase and introduced yourself to the guests.

There was a king and queen, a girl who looked a few years younger than you, and a guy that looked about your age.

"Y/N, I'd like you to meet the Orson family," your father said, introducing the guests.

"This is my son, Hunter, and my daughter, Rose," the king said with a comforting smile.

"This is my only daughter, Y/N," your dad replied.

You smiled and curtsied, something your parents had forced you to do ever since you were self-aware. You all walked into the huge dining room and were seated according to the seating arrangements. You were placed in the middle of Hunter and Rose.

You all talked for a little while until someone walked in to ask the king what he wanted the chef to prepare. You looked up and locked eyes with Ethan, the maid's son.

———

You and Ethan met only that morning when you bumped into him in a hallway. He explained how his mother was having trouble doing all the castle work herself after the passing of the other maid.

He lived in the village and had volunteered to come to the castle and help her. The reason for his presence made your heart flutter. Not only because he was sweet, but because he was insanely good-looking. Dark, fluffy hair, hazel eyes with specks of green, pink plump lips, and the tannest skin you'd ever seen.

You both became fast friends but your attraction to him never faded, if everything, it strengthened. Because of that, you guys developed a "thing" but never took it anywhere in fear of Ethan being taken away or you getting in deep trouble.

———

Ethan smiled at you, causing your cheeks to turn pink, but he quickly directed his attention back to the king as to not draw suspicion. He wrote down the king's requests on a small sheet of paper and returned to the kitchen.

He returned a little while later carrying two silver platters. One was steak and the other was salad. He set them both down on the table and you made eye contact once more before he exited the room.

You sighed at the food options. You were vegetarian and your parents knew that, yet they continued to serve meat as the main course for dinner all the time.

"Can you stop being so gloomy? You're killing my vibe," Hunter scoffed, his attitude like nothing of a prince's.

"I'm sorry, your vibe?" you snapped.

He nodded and took a bite of steak.

"Sorry," you said insincerely, being taught to be nothing but kind to guests even if you didn't want to.
