I woke up the next morning to my phone ringing. I groaned and hid my head under my pillow, not wanting to get up and answer it. I reluctantly grabbed the phone and answered.

“Hello?” I croaked in my morning voice, wiping the sleep from my eyes.

“Hello, sunshine,” laughed Chris from the other end. I was instantly awake, excited that he was calling me.

“What’s up?” I asked.

“You owe me a date, and I figured we could go to the movies or something today. You in?”

“Sure,” I agreed, a little too eagerly. This made him laugh as I suggested, “Although, movies are lame. How about we go on a bike ride?”

“Ugh, but that requires effort,” he complained.

“Don’t be such a lazy ass,” I complained, making him laugh.

“Alright, let’s do it. Meet me downstairs in an hour, ok?”

“See you then. Love you.”

“What?” Chris asked, shocked.

“Sorry!” I laughed. “It’s like an automatic thing, you know?”

He laughed, “Love you, too, babe.” He then hung up, and I was more emotionally confused than ever as I turned on the water and jumped in the shower. After I thoroughly washed myself, I pulled my hair in a ponytail and slipped into jean shorts and a tank top; although we were bike riding, we weren’t doing anything major. I put on some light makeup, and by the time I was done with everything, it had pretty much been an hour.

“Hey, you,” I teased as I met him downstairs. He wrapped an arm around my waist and kissed my cheek, making me blush.

“Where do you want to bike to?” he asked.

I shrugged. “I dunno.”

His eyes lit up suddenly. “I know another cool place we can go.”

“Ok,” I said, smiling at him as we got on our bikes, racing to wherever he wanted us to go.

“I’m going to beat you!” he shouted as he started to speed up.

“You wish!” I laughed, starting to catch up. However, he did beat me as we arrived to a cabin beside the lake.

“It’s abandoned,” he explained. “It used to be a place to isolate witches who caused trouble, but they eventually shut it down. Now, it’s just… here.”
