“So, we’re telling this guy our plan, even though he could betray us easily? That seems smart,” I said, not sure if I was talking to Kyle or Chris.
“We trust him. He’s been friends with our dad for a while, and managed to infiltrate the Council. If anyone can teach you how to, it’s him,” Kyle said from the front.
I sighed. “Alright, I’ll do it.”
When we got there, we ran inside and burst into the office. His parents were there, and my eyes went to Marcus. He was hot, and although I loved Chris more than anyone, I still appreciated his incredibly good looks.
Before I comprehended what I was doing, I had let out a soft whistle under my breath. The man looked at me, ran his fingers through his blonde curls, and winked. I nearly melted.
“I’m Marcus. You must be Taylor, the secret weapon I’ve been hearing all about.”
I stared at him, star-struck, before stuttering out in a daze, “That’s me. Weapon reporting for duty.”
He laughed, and I nearly melted.
Chris elbowed me, and I suddenly remembered that other people were around. I forced myself out of my lust-filled haze and sat down, Chris close beside me. I could tell that he was mad that I had been ogling Marcus.
“So, you’re the one who managed to sneak onto the Council?” I asked.
“That’s me. Now, I’m here to help you do the same thing.” Then, to everyone, “Can we get a moment alone, please?”
“No,” Chris growled.
“Chris,” I hissed, “Just go. He’s the only thing right now that could save my life, and unless you want to risk my life just because you’re jealous, I suggest you go.”
Chris narrowed his eyes, but didn’t say anything as he left the room, everyone else following.
“That’s your boyfriend?”
“Yeah,” I said, blushing.
“How come all the pretty ones are taken?” he asked sitting next to me and putting his feet on the desk. “And, why are you dressed up as a maid?”
“Costume party,” I lied. “Anyway, how are you going to get me on the Council?”
“I wrote down everything I did whilst gaining the trust of the Council in a journal, figuring that it would come in handy. I also have Clarice’s journal.”
“That’s where it was!” I gasped, relieved that the Council and Chris’s family weren’t screwing me over as much as I thought they were.
He passed me the book across the table, and I grabbed it before he changed his mind. He then handed me his journal and said, “Look, I’d like to meet with you in a month to talk about everything you’ve learned, and answer some questions. Also, here is a book about everything currently going on in the witching government, so that you can learn how other people ruled over the witching community, and so that you can kind of get an idea how to do it. Alright?”
