I stayed in my room the rest of the night, and Chris ended up stopping by after school.
“I know you were lying about being on your period. What happened?”
I sighed before I explained everything to him. I did like about stealing the books because I knew that wouldn’t go over well. I just lied and said that it was accidentally shoved into Celeste’s books that she gave me on control, and he believed me.
Although, he was pretty pissed.
“You knew the risks involved with that spell! Why the hell would you risk your life and wellbeing just to pass a fucking quiz?!”
“I’m sorry!” I paused, looking into his eyes, and I was scared by how angry he looked. I’d never seen him angry before. “It’s the pressure of the Council getting to me.”
“You should still know better!” he yelled.
“Chris, calm down. It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Of course it is! You could have gotten hurt, maybe even killed yourself, by doing that spell! It’s not just about your life anymore, it’s the lives of every witch that will benefit from when you take over!”
“What, so I’m just some benefit for you, some object that gets you what you want?” I was pissed now. “You don’t care about the fact that I’m getting hurt, so much as that you’re losing your ticket to power!”
“That’s not what I meant-”
“You didn’t have to say it,” I said, holding up a hand to silence him. “You know what, just leave.”
“Please, can we talk about this? I-”
“Just go!” I hissed. “I’m beyond pissed at you right now, and I want to think about things when I’m not so irrational.”
He sighed. “I love you.”
“I love you, too. I’m just pissed at you and hate you right now.”
“That makes sense,” he snorted.
“Just go.”
He sighed. “Alright, Taylor. I really don’t want to leave and this hurts me to leave knowing that you’re pissed at me, but I’m going for you.”
I sighed, sitting down on the bed and putting my head in my hands. “No, don’t go.”
“Thank God,” he sighed in relief, sitting next to me.
“It’s misdirected anger. I’m just so pissed at everything, including the Council and your family and… UGH.”
“Look, I know you’re angry. But, treating me as your emotional punching bag isn’t the right way to do it. Just let out everything you’re feeling to me, and I’ll always be here to listen and help you through it.”
“Thanks, babe,” I said, kissing his cheek.
“Anyway…” he pressed his lips against mine, and pressed me against the bed. “It’s scary to think about you getting hurt by your magic.”
“Well, when I learn how to control my magic, nothing’ll go wrong and we’ll be perfect together and…”
“Ride our unicorns into the sunset?” Chris suggested.
“On a rainbow,” I laughed, and he just rolled his eyes.
After we talked for a little while, my friends came back and kicked him out so that we could hang out. Chris was disappointed, but quickly left when Scarlett started throwing tampons at him.
