After lots of Aspirin, water, and vomiting, Chris told me everything I had done the night before. Naturally, I felt terrible, and he forgave me. But, not without warning me that my nights partying alone were over. And, I reluctantly accepted that my inner whore would have to finally be put to sleep.

“Did you find out anything?” I asked him after my hangover started to pass.

“Yeah, actually, I did. And it’s not good.” Chris’s face went dark as he started to explain everything. “After a long talk with my father and mother about you, I started to convince them that you could handle it. So, they then dismissed themselves to talk with members of their would-be council. I took the opportunity to go through his desk.”

“My little delinquent,” I cooed, running my fingers through his hair.

He rolled his eyes, hiding his smirk, as he continued. “I found some papers that were a correspondence with one of his members of his council that he had recently convinced to join, and it outlined everything in their plan. I couldn’t take it because he would notice it was missing, but I did take pictures of it.”

He handed me his phone, and I started to read:

Charles, my plan is simple. After I take control (if you join, we will further talk about how we will do this), my plan is to eliminate most of the rules they have. After that, we need to assert ourselves to the human race. We have been hiding too long from what we are, and been afraid of humans, who have no power. We can easily take control from them, we have the numbers and the power. We will then overthrow their modern government, and replace it with ours. We will have no political parties, checks and balances… only the strong and the weak. Join our Council, with me as the head, and you can be a part of this. As for the humans… they will be nothing to us, only people who we can use for work and the rest we can kill. Join us in moving towards a brighter future of all witches. First must come darkness to bring light.

“That’s their real plan,” sighed Chris as he closed the book.

“They’re going to kill and enslave all the humans?” I gasped.

“That’s his plan,” he muttered.

“They’re worse than the Council,” I muttered. “Michael is like… Hitler. He plans on wiping them out completely? Even with magic, can we withstand all of their military weapons?”

“That’s just it,” he whispered. “They can’t, not alone. That’s why he’s going along with our plan. He doesn’t want you to be in charge. He’s just using you for your power, so that once he and his people use you to get in charge, they won’t be done. Then they’ll use you as a nuclear bomb and destroy everything.”

“If he thinks I’ll do that, he’s insane.”

“That’s why he was so interested that we were together,” he murmured. “Because he knows you care about me. He’s going to use me to get to you. He thinks that I still trust him, and that he can easily manipulate me because I’m his son, and wouldn’t suspect him of such heinous things. When I least expect it… He’ll take me to get to you.”

“You’ll be bait, motivation,” I murmured, bottom lip trembling at the thought. “They’ll torture you, maybe even kill you if they’re desperate, to get me to do what they want.”

“Exactly,” he murmured. “Marcus might even be on their side. That might be why he wants to know who you’re going to put on your council. So that Michael has more people to manipulate you with. So that after he kills one, he doesn’t completely lose leverage.”

“Marcus seemed genuine…”

Chris sighed, running his hand over his face. “I know it might seem like that. That’s what I thought about my dad at first, too. Trust is a luxury we can’t afford right now. The only person you can trust now is yourself, and me.”
