The next few weeks were a blur, Cas still waiting on him hand and foot. "You don't have to keep doing this," he complained when the angel brought him fresh orange juice."Perhaps not," Castiel replied and sat next to him, "But I want to". Dean smiled, and thanked whatever gods cared for him that Castiel was by his side again.
"Alright!" Sam's voice broke the moment. "Time for an ultrasound". Dean almost spat out his juice. This can't be happening.
"What?"
"Time for an ultrasound," he repeated, "Make sure the twins are developing properly". Dean was shocked into silence.
"We don't have the machine thing," he pointed out finally, happy to have an excuse to get out of this."Yes, you do," Gabriel corrected him, entering the room. He wheeled in the ultrasound machine, kitted out in his Doctor Sexy outfit.
"Where the hell did you get that?" Dean almost shouted.
"Ebay, dude," the archangel replied. Dean frowned at Sam, and his little brother winced.
"Well, we can't exactly take you to a real doctor," he tried to explain himself.
"Oi!" Gabriel protested. "I'll have you know I am a real doctor. I got my PHD a few decades back for shits and giggles".--
About ten minutes after Gabriel had assured them all that he was perfectly qualified, Dean was laid out on a lounge; the machine ready to go beside him. "Okay, let me see some skin," Gabriel grinned and Dean rolled his eyes before revealing his slightly distended stomach. "This'll be cold," he warned and squirted the gel on him. All eyes were on the screen as Gabriel waved the wand around his skin. Castiel immediately grabbed Dean's hand as the monitor lit up, and Dean didn't bother to act embarrassed.
"There they are," Sam smiled."There they are," Gabriel confirmed.
"Are they holding hands?" Sam asked, and Dean laughed.
"Looks like it, huh?" The figures looked like they were clinging to each other."Are they healthy?" Castiel asked, the first thing he'd said since they began. He didn't take his eyes off the screen.
"Yes," Gabriel assured them. He took the wand away and wiped the gel off it. Then he gave a cloth to Dean so he could clean himself off. "Would you like to know their genders?"
"No!" Dean stopped him and Sam looked at his brother. "No. I want it to be a surprise".
Gabriel nodded, and printed pictures for them.--
It was later that night, when they were alone, that Sam approached Gabriel.
"Why did you do it?" he asked him quietly. The archangel was laying the lounge, his feet up, with a lollipop in his mouth. He opened his eyes to look at Sam lazily.
"Hmm?"
"Why'd you make him pregnant?" Sam asked, and Gabriel snorted.
"I thought we established this. That was Cas, remember?"
Sam rolled his eyes. "You know what I mean".
"Yeah, yeah. Just felt like it, Sammikins," he settled further into the lounge and closed his eyes again. Sam frowned.
"You're lying," he called him out and Gabriel's eyes shot open.
"What?"
"You heard me," he said, feeling smug that he was able to catch the Trickster off guard. "Tell me the truth". Gabriel swung his legs off the lounge, so he was sitting upright."They needed it, okay?" he finally said. "Look at them. Cassie is ecstatic and Dean acts like he hates it, but he couldn't be happier". He clasped his hands together, and hung his arms loosely off his knees. He didn't look at Sam. "I didn't do it for Dean, though". Sam waited patiently. "Cas was always the younger brother, and now he-". He stopped talking, and rubbed a hand over his face. Like he was trying to scrub away the emotion there. The weakness.
"Now he can look after someone," Sam finished for him. Gabriel looked up at him, slightly shocked, and nodded.Sam smiled.
