Castiel held his daughter, rocking her almost frantically. She was silent. "Is he okay?" he said, as loud as dared. He didn't want to wake his children. Gabriel didn't answer him. He didn't even look at him.
Sam was holding his nephew, and looking on, quiet. Dean was pale.
"Is he okay?" Cas asked again, emphasised. His eyes were desperate.
"I don't know," Gabriel said. "He's not bleeding anymore, and I've replenished his blood level. There's no physical reason why he shouldn't wake up". Gabriel put his ear to Dean's chest. "He's breathing, and his heart is stable".
"Can we move him?" Sam asked, "Somewhere more comfortable?" Gabriel looked at him, and nodded. He lifted Dean up, and they walked silently to his room. Dean wasn't a light man, but it was nothing to the archangel. The room was silent. Nothing but the sound of breathing around them. Gabriel gently laid him out on the bed, over the covers, and turned to the others. He conjured up two bassinets, and looked at the children. "You can put them down, if you want," he supplied. Neither man moved. Gabriel turned back to Dean, and then stepped towards the door. "Let me know if anything changes".
Sam looked at Dean, still pale, and looked at Cas. The angel hadn't taken his eyes off him. "I'm going to go help clean up," he said, and Cas nodded. Sam carefully placed his, now sleeping, nephew in one of the bassinets. "Let me know, okay?" With Cas' responding nod, Sam left.
His daughter was still silent in his arms, tiny hands grasping at his tie, but when the door shut - his son started to cry. "Oh," he said, suddenly overwhelmed. He carefully hurried over, and placed his daughter in one bassinet, before picking up his son from the other. As soon as she was put down, his daughter started to wail desperately, but his son quietened. Castiel's eyes widened.
He placed his son down, and picked his daughter up to hush her. He started to cry as soon as his head touched the small pillow. "Please, don't," he said, quietly, and tried to rock his bassinet with one hand. His daughter was still screaming. He looked at Dean, who was still unconscious. The twins kept yelling, no matter which one he held, now. Their faces were red, from screaming.
--
Dean could hear yelling. No, hang on, that was crying. Crying. Somebody was crying. It was loud, but somehow muffled. He needed it to stop. He needed to help.
He couldn't move.
"Please, don't," somebody had said. Dean didn't know who. He needed to stop the crying, he needed to comfort them. Them. The babies. His babies.
--
"Give her to me," a voice said, and Castiel looked at Dean, who was sitting up in bed.
"Dean?" Cas said, relieve flooding through him.
"Pass me our daughter, Cas," he repeated, and the angel did so. He held her close, as Castiel picked up their son. They both quietened down. Dean smiled.
