Liam's POV
Her face was growing paler as we talked. Her lips were already as white as snow. My heart skipped a beat as I noticed Sara struggle with her life. What's wrong with her? I sighed trying to disguise my worry as anger. I was taken aback by her shaky arm that she raised to point out something behind me. She muttered something I couldn't understand. "What?" I inquired enclosing the space between us. She didn't answer. Her system went down completely. The moment I turned my head to check what she was pointing at I saw a large wooden rod directed towards my head. My mind raced quickly as the rod came closer to my forehead. I couldn't think properly for there was barely anytime to think. Instantly, I found my arms hovered protectively over my head and my shaky legs took two steps backwards. Luckily, that was enough for the rod to miss my head and swish through the air. In this instant, I scanned my opponent trying to figure out where I should attack him. An idea struck my mind. Before the large man raised the rod for another hit, I grabbed the rod and pushed it to his belly. He was slightly affected by my gesture and took a step backwards snatching his rod from my palms. He took a step towards me raising the rod again. I was about to kick him when he quickly responded by blocking my kick with his strong leg. He pushed my leg further almost tripping me had I not taken several unstable steps backwards. He walked taking one confident step after the other as he said, "Just let me take the girl and leave you as one piece."
"Never," I grumbled fury burning through my mind. So he wants to kidnap Sara! I thought realizing I was stuck between the man and Sara. I tried punching him before he swung his weapon, but he avoided it taking a step back. That should give me a few seconds. A plan quickly formed in my mind as I raced behind Sara's chair turning her to face me rather than the bully. "Are you going to be smart and hand Samanttha to me already?" he smiled mischievously.
"Don't even dream of it," I replied placing Sara's unconscious body aside. Thinking I was vulnerable, he slid the rod past his shoulder and directed it towards me. In an instant, I grabbed the chair Sara had been sitting on and protected the two of us using it. Being the stronger weapon, the rod smashed the chair under its force. I was left with the leg of the chair which would barely do me any good. I had two choices; either finish this fight and die like a man or carry Sara and run barely a meter away before dying like a coward. I made up my mind. I have to find a safe way out of this. I'm not going to let his filthy hands touch her. As the hulk-like man prepared himself for another hit, I kicked him with all my strength. He lowered his guard for a second enough for me to pull his rod and hit his head with it. He fell to the floor withering in pain. I smiled victoriously and quickly picked up Sara from the floor and ran for our lives. I knew he wouldn't stay on the floor for long so I had to keep my guard up. After placing Sara in my car, I rode not knowing where I should go. Many thoughts fought giving me a slight headache when my phone started ringing. Thanks God! I thought seeing my friend's name on the screen.
"Hey Parker," I greeted.
"Hey man," he replied.
"You have no idea how I needed to talk to you!" I exclaimed, "You're in work?"
"No, it's weekend, man. What's wrong with you?" he said playfully.
"Oh, right! I totally forgot. It's just that I took a vacation so I'm kinda confused. Anyways, can I please come to your place? I'm sort of in trouble and need your help," I explained.
"You? Trouble?" he laughed, "Liam, trouble runs away from you, my friend."
"Cut the jokes. I'm serious. Sara, remember her?"
"Yes."
"She is totally off, and I can't take her home nor to a hospital. I'll tell you everything later, but is it fine if we come over to your place?" I asked.
