Y/n-Your name

H/C-Hair color

Y/n was from Alaska and moved to New York city after living there for nearly her whole life. So, when she met the Hamilsquad, she knew that they'd love to see dog sledding. It was never brought up in the group; probably because they simply forgot that it was a thing. But, as winter drew near, Y/n was packing up and booking a flight to Alaska. She had to go to Alaska a few weeks early to pick dogs for her team, bond with them, train them, and then qualify them for the Iditarod. Of course, when John saw Y/n's packed bags in her room in September, he was extremely confused.

John asked," Y/n?" The H/C haired girl looked over at the freckled-face man and asked," What?" She was currently busy stuffing snow gear into one of her bags which brought John into a swirling whirlpool of confusion. He asked," What're you doing? You do realize that it's not winter, right?" Y/n smiled and said," I know. I'm just packing up so I could go home." John never really knew anything about Y/n's past. He just knew that she lived in the United States her whole life and had a very nice family that had moved to Scotland. He had no idea that Y/n was from Alaska. John asked," But isn't this home?" Y/n hesitated. Yes, the house that she and the Hamilsquad lived in was home but it really wasn't. It was like a replica of her actual home. It felt comfy, cozy, and safe. And so did her actual home. Y/n said," I mean my home that I was born in and raised at. I'm going home for the whole winter." John said," You should tell the others." Y/n nodded at the idea but said," But I'm not even done packing yet. Tell the others that I'm heading to Alaska this winter. Tell them they can come along if they really want to."

John did as he was told. Lafayette was too busy to go. Hercules had too many clients. Alexander had papers to write. Aaron (who wasn't part of the Hamilsquad but a close friend of theirs) was too busy to go too. So, that just left John.

John booked a flight and finished his packing. He entered Y/n's room to see that she was done packing. John asked," Why are you going to Alaska in the middle of September?" He sat down next to Y/n, who was currently sprawled out on her bed on her phone. She answered," Well, have you ever heard of the Iditarod?" John shook his head as a 'no' and Y/n huffed. She said," It's like a big dog sled race over snow and ice for about 1,150 miles from Anchorage to Nome. And to get from Anchorage to Nome, you have to use dogs to get there." Suddenly, it all made sense in John's mind. He said," Ohhhhh, so that's why you're going." Y/n nodded and said," I'm going to, uh, race. I'm gonna look for six dogs and I have to bond with them and train them. I'm gonna be racing in early March."

Honestly, John was excited about the whole idea of just being alone with Y/n for about seven months. John formed a crush on the woman when she was friends with them for nearly a whole year. Now, John was able to spend time with her alone for the first time and maybe spark something between him and her. He has seven months so he shouldn't make up an excuse about it in the end if they aren't together. Plus, John loves dogs. Turtles are his first but dogs are his second favorite animal. They were always so cute and energetic. It was nearly impossible for John to think that dogs were used to sled across snow and ice for 1,000 miles or more. Also, how long would it even take for someone to get from Anchorage to Nome? John didn't know. Y/n on the other hand, knew. She has done this before and did it just to have some fun but now, Y/n was pretty serious about the whole race. Of course, she had to qualify first, but if she did qualify, she'd become completely serious over the race. John wouldn't be there to help her, she would be there only with her dogs. In the cold. On dangerous terrain. With bears and shit.

A few days later, John and Y/n were in Alaska. Y/n was at the Firebowl Kennels to pick six dogs and John clearly wanted all of them. Y/n snorted at John's behavior and said," Come on. I think I found one." John perked up and headed over to where Y/n was standing. In front of her was a male German Shepherd with chocolate brown eyes. Y/n not only loved its looks but also its personality. She looked at the clipboard on the huge kennel.

Name: Sam

Gender: Male

Breed: German Shepherd

Age: 3

Y/n knew that when she picked out her six dogs, she'd have to find out their personalities and their faults. And she wasn't going to do this alone. So, Y/n chose Sam, one of the remaining few dogs. A worker at the kennels followed them around, watching in amusement at John's silly behavior. Y/n learned the worker's name was Zach. Y/n had already picked out four other dogs already, excluding Sam. The second dog Y/n chose was an Alaskan Malamute named Storm. The third dog was a Husky named Balto who had a beautiful brown coat. The fourth dog was a black lab named Comet. Finally, the fourth dog was another Husky named Fang who had a white coat.

Now, Y/n was looking for her sixth dog. She knew that the breeds were a bit crazy. So far she had a German Shepherd, an Alaskan Malamute, a Husky, another Husky, and a black lab. What else is there? Apparently, there was a St. Bernard named Rosie. Y/n chose Rosie as her sixth dog and she was pretty excited to train them next week. As John and Y/n left the kennel John asked," Why are there so many dogs?" Y/n answered smartly," Well, you need two in the back, the middle, and the front." John still looked confused but said nothing.

Eight months have passed and John and Y/n were closer than ever. Y/n qualified for the Iditarod and bonded with the dogs well. John brought up the courage to tell Y/n that he loved her.

It was a beautiful April night. John and Y/n were out on the patio of Y/n's old home. John decided it was time to confess. John said," Y/n, I have a confession to make."

Y/n looked at John in confusion and in panic.

John took in a sharp breath and said," I...I really like you. I realized that a few months back and I had this huge crush on you...So...will you be my girlfriend?"

Sadness flashed in Y/n's eyes. Y/n kept this secret from John for so long. She loved him also but she kept another secret from him and everyone else. She had an incurable disease. She was most likely going to die in a few days. She won the Iditarod and was so happy. Tomorrow, Y/n was most likely going to be found in a hospital in New York. Y/n lied," I..." She didn't want to lie. She really didn't want to.

But she did.

Y/n said forcefully," I'm so sorry, John, but I don't feel the same way." John's heart shattered.

John and Y/n drifted apart and they went to NYC. The Hamilsquad was pissed at Y/n. They knew that John loved Y/n and she turned him down but she really didn't want to. After an argument, Y/n left the house and was found outside of the city, staring up at the sky. She was sitting against a tree and just star gazed. She pointed out constellations while she could feel the disease hurting her. Killing her. Her phone rung multiple times but Y/n never picked up.
