James' POV
It was in the summer when Y/n and I got the idea of stealing horses. Well, it was actually my idea. I was fed up by Ray's taunts and the beatings I received from him nearly everyday. I wanted to get him back. I learned from Y/n and from her friends that Ray loved horses. He had about five of them outside of town near Y/n's house and I thought that was the perfect plan.
James walked through the forest, wondering what Ray's ranch looked like. He only saw a glimpse of it one time when he and Y/n were playing in the forest. He was in a tree when Y/n scared him and he fell off into the lake below. That was the only time he's seen Ray's home. Now, as James walked through the forest, he felt like he was lost. He recognized the blood-red lake he was walking next to. Whenever it was dawn, the sun made the lake into a beautiful red. You'd never know if someone was murdered in it or not. That thought chilled James to the bone. He continued his way north, and eventually saw a huge farmhouse. He scanned everything near the trees. There was a barn that was painted in red, white fences, and a huge field of crops. James spotted a dirt trail and followed it, immediately greeted by the sound of a horse. He looked up to see an appaloosa grazing. He jumped over the fence and walked over cautiously toward the appaloosa. He's never ridden a horse in his life and wasn't sure how a horse would act around him. The horse was left with their tack still on and so was another horse. James wondered if Ray was nearby since both of the horses were already tacked up. He was now standing in front of the appaloosa when Ray yelled," What the fuck are you doing?!" That's when Y/n stepped in to help. She was a normal visitor and always took a horse to ride. She really didn't expect James to be there. Y/n jumped up onto the sleek black horse that was already tacked up and James followed in suite. Ray was starting to run towards the steel gate when all of a sudden, the appaloosa bolted towards the fence and jumped. That was the first time he's ever ridden a horse and he absolutely loved it.
James looked around the airport. He wasn't sure what he expected to see. Since he got Y/n's number, they've been texting and Y/n was supposed to be here about now.
The air was suddenly knocked out of me when someone attacked me in a hug. A familiar voice greeted," Hiya." I smiled and Y/n let go of me, grabbing her bag.
We stood there, studying each other. There was a comfortable silence between us and a cozy warmth around us. I didn't have to worry about acting weird around Y/n. It seemed right to just stare at each other, observing each other. It was okay to do that.
I noticed how much Y/n changed. She was still short but she looked more tough. She had her L/S H/C hair and sparkling E/C eyes that just defined the word 'mischief.' Y/n had on a light blue cap with a white letter 'Q' on it. She was wearing her Quinton hat. I joked," Miss home?" Y/n rolled her eyes and adjusted her hat, despite the fact it was perfect the way it was. She asked," Didja miss me?" I said with a tinge of guilt in my voice," I kind've forgotten about you..." Y/n gave me a toothy grin and said," So did I! So, now, where is that cafe? I haven't had a cup of coffee in weeks!" I laughed," How is that even possible?" Y/n shrugged," Adult problems. Money 'n shit." I nodded and said," Follow me."
We walked out of the airport and headed to the cafe I wanted to show Y/n. We went inside and immediately sat down. Y/n got herself a coffee and began drinking up. I rolled my eyes at her actions and she asked," How much do you remember?" I asked," What?" She repeated," How much do remember of home?" I answered," Oh, well, everything." Y/n said," Same thing. It's just...weird. You've gotten taller and look different than who you were eleven years ago. Yet...you're still you, ya'know?" When I think about it, Y/n's right. She does look different but she still acts the same way and if you met her eleven years ago and see her now, you would still see her younger self reflecting itself on her still. She still looked young but what she looked like eleven years ago had faded a bit.
