Somebody was hitting my face.
Softly, but surely I was being slapped and I knew by who. A smile crept it's way onto my face and my eyes fluttered open to see the little blonde boy.
"Wub up momma." He said seriously. He was trying to tell me to wake up, but for some reason that word was hard for him. I sucked in my lips to stop myself from laughing and closed my eyes again. Then I groaned like I was still sleeping and stretched out my limbs, grabbing Benji to me and tickling him. His peals of laughter made my day brighter and I kissed him all over his face before getting up.
It was one pm. I slept way later than usual and we came downstairs to find the house empty. There was two notes on the refrigerator.
The first on said. "Hope you had a good night out, Benji and I had a good night in. Love Mom"
The second one was from both Luce and Leslie. I recognized their different hand writing Luce said "All night-er at the office tonight." and Leslie said "Going to my go-sees, might not be back until late tonight. p.s. it's your turn to make groceries." I groaned. That could be a problem. Oh well, I would deal with that when the time came. I turned on my Ihome dock, setting my phone in it and clicking on the Pandora app. I smiled when it started blaring Glee's version of Florence and the Machine's "Shake it out".
Putting Benji in his high chair, I got started on breakfast. I knew it was past breakfast time, but I started my day with breakfast food, I couldn't break that tradition now, even if it was one in the afternoon. Cinnamon waffles seemed like a good idea and I got started on it, squeezing fresh orange juice and singing along to the music.
"Regrets collect, like old friends, here to relieve your darkest moments..." I danced around the kitchen, making Benji laugh and soon enough our waffles were done, filling the house with a warm smell.
I sat on side of Benji, running my fingers through his hair. "You need a haircut." I sighed.
"Haircwut?" He asked confused by the word. I smiled grabbing for my phone and calling Wyatt.
"You better not be calling to cancel because you have a lot of explaining to do." He said as his way of greeting. I rolled my eyes. Dammit! How did he know me so well when we barely knew each other!
"Stop being so serious, it doesn't suit you." I joked and heard him sigh on the other end. "Where are you?" I asked.
"Leaving Adam's house, why?" The mention of Adam's name made me recall the events of the night before and I blushed. Why did he feel the need to come to my rescue? I didn't know whether or not to feel flattered or offended. I was no damsel in distress and I knew for a fact that I could handle Marcus if I needed to. He wasn't much of a fighter.
"Can you meet me at Trader Joe's on Sixth in three hours?"
"Yes, but what for?" He sounded uncertain. I sighed, not ready to tell him about Benji.
"Just meet me. I'll explain there." I said and ended the call. I texted Leslie and told her that Benji and I would be out until late and that she should get food out. I smiled at Benji who was eating his waffle with both hands. I watched him eat and when he finished chewing the last piece, I scooped him into my arms and got him dressed in some jeans and a blue shirt that had "My mother loves my face" written in black block letters and some Nike shoes. Then, setting him in his playpen, and turning on the little Einsteins for him, I took a shower myself and got dressed in a pair or high waisted dark wash skinny jeans and a blue cotton button down, with elbow length sleeves. I sighed at the big hand print shaped bruises on my arms and flinched when I touched one. I wasn't in the mood for make-up and I pulled my hair into a side-braid. Adding a pair of black ankle boots, I was ready to go.
