Chapter 2- Enchanted

I was still upset over the Brooks brothers not remembering me when the rest of my family came home from shopping. I grudgingly made my way into the kitchen to help put away the food and drinks they had gotten. As I was putting the bottles of ice tea in the fridge, my mum brought up the topic I just didn’t want to think about right now.

“So Dakota- I saw Luke, Jai and Beau in their front yard as we drove past, have you said hello yet?” My mum looked at me with smiling eyes; she knew how excited I was to see them again after being in America for seven years.

The Brooks family lived just ten houses down from me, so back when I lived here ages ago I’d see them all the time and we’d always spend so much time at both of our houses. Their house was like my second home, and vice versa. I was close to Gina as well- my mum went to university with her, so they easily became really good friends again. We all had a tradition of the Brooks coming over to my house every Friday for dinner, then the boys would stay over and have a movie night and a sleepover with me.

“Yeah. I met them.” I said coldly, suddenly in a mad mood.

“Met them? Don’t you mean reconnect with them?” My mum looked confused and worried. She could tell something was wrong by the way I avoided eye contact and started playing with the hem of my jumper.

“Mum, they don’t even remember me! How could my best friends not remember me?!” I exclaimed as I threw my hands up in the air in frustration.

“Oh, darling; it’s been a long time! You’ve grown up and become a beautiful young lady- I’m sure after properly introducing yourself again they’ll remember you!” Mum tried convincing me that everything was going to turn out well, but failed.

“That’s not the point! They thought I was one of their fans that visited them at a meet and greet!” My mum looked at me with high eyebrows, signalling me to go on. I looked down

“It’s just…I thought we’d always remember each other. When we left Australia- they all promised me that they’d never forget me. I guess they’re just too famous to have another best friend.”

“Don’t be silly! I’m sure once they realise that you’re back everything will go back to normal. You have not lost your best friends. Now I’m going to call up Gina and tell them that we’re back.”

“Sure, whatever Mum.” I sighed and finished putting away the fruit in the white glass fruit bowl that sat in the corner of our kitchen bench.

I began to walk into the lounge room to watch TV when I heard mum scream of happiness from the kitchen while on the phone to Gina. She was laughing like we never left for America…why couldn’t the boys and I be like that? But no…apparently I’m the girl who bought them all beanies.

I saw down on the couch next to Matthew who was watching some crime investigation show to which I was completely uninterested in.

“Can we watch something good?” I said in a monotone voice as Matt began to channel surf.

“Shut up, all the shows I watch are good.” He smirked as he stopped on a wrestling show; I rolled my eyes and got my iPhone out of my jeans pocket.

I began to log into my tumblr account and reblog photos of cats, funny GIFs and what not. The whole time I was scrolling through my dash I was constantly wondering how my life would change now that I’m back in Melbourne. Would I need to find new best friends? Has all the local fame gotten to the boy’s heads now that they’re in the Janoskians? Once again, my mum snapped me out of my daze as she came booming into the living room with a huge smile plastered on her face.
