It had been two weeks since Ember and Emma had decided to leave together. When they weren't moving to a new place, Ember was teaching Emma how to use a sword. Emma's gun had been left behind a few hours after they had made the decision, Ember claiming that if she used it, it would draw unwanted attention to them.
Two weeks of working together, something new for the both of them. Never in their life had they worked together, and now they were doing it 24/7. Working together for food, water, shelter, and safety.
Two weeks of bonding. The two had never been close growing up even though they knew every small detail of each other's lives. Now, they had returned to constantly being around each other, and neither of them minded it.
Two weeks of fighting to stay alive. After leaving their people and going off on their own, they had run into several Grounders. People who saw them as the enemy, and would kill them if they could. The twins had fought, side by side, getting better and better after each fight.
Only two weeks, and both were unsure of how much longer they could make it. Ember was trying to stay strong, but Emma could tell she was struggling. Ember knew how to survive, and was doing her best. Emma was getting a full night's rest every night, while Ember was plagued with nightmares, only sleeping for a few hours, if she slept at all.
The war with Mountain Weather had put both of them through things that neither of them expected. Neither expected that when the got to the Mountain they'd to the things they did. But they had each other, and they hoped it was enough.
The woods were quiet, and the sun was just peering out of the trees. Emma and Ember slept on the hard ground, Ember using a tree root as a pillow, and Emma using her sister.
The younger twin was awake, laying calmly as she let Emma continue to sleep. Their weapons were only a few inches away, in case they needed to quickly use it, although Ember wasn't sure how much help Emma would be if they got attacked, she always took a few minutes to be awake enough to move around.
After a few more minutes, Ember nudged her sister awake, unsure of how long it would be safe to stay in the area. There was a village nearby, the two had passed it the day prior. Ember knew that if they went hunting in her direction, it wouldn't be long before they found them.
Ember looked through her pack, handing her sister the water canteen they were sharing. They had no food, and Ember knew that that was their most pressing issue, and that's what they'd have to worry about that day."We need to go hunting." Ember told her sister when she noticed her sister was finally awake enough to process things. "We had the last of our food yesterday." She added, taking the water back from Emma. She took a small sip herself, wanting more but not wanting to waste what they had left. She put it into her bag, zipping it shut and putting in on. She grabbed her bow and sword, putting them both over her shoulder, making sure she had easy access to them.
Emma grabbed her own pack, and grabbed her sword, taking a moment to put it into the sheath at her side. "I say we had that way." She said, pointing to one side. She looked towards the opposite direction. "I think we saw the village that way."
Ember nodded, taking her word for it. Neither of them were good with directions, and so Ember usually just went with what Emma told her.
They went in that direction together, both looking up in the trees as they walked, looking for both birds and possible threats.
After hunting for a few hours, and coming up with nothing, they were almost ready to give up. "We might as well give up." Emma grumbled out, looking towards her sister. Ember shook her head almost instantly. "Why not? It's been three hours, and we're just wasting energy."
