At some point, Ember figured she must have fallen asleep. When she woke up, her hand was uncuffed and she drew it towards her, rubbing the area to make sure it wasn't bruised like when Emma had handcuffed her.

Emma. She was still in the bunker, and probably about to fight Bellamy, Indra, and Gaia. Octavia had sent her away. To protect her, Ember was sure. But why save her and not her own brother? Ember couldn't let any of those people die.

She glanced in the backseat. Madi and the twins were all sleeping, and Ember turned her attention to Clarke. The blonde was already looking at her, her eyes sympathetic. "I made a deal with Octavia."

"Clarke I don't want to hear-"

"Let me explain," Clarke interrupted and then glanced back to make sure she hadn't woken up the kids. Ember pursed her lips and let her continue. "I made a deal with Octavia. I help her take the flame out of Madi, and she let our family leave safely."

"And in saving your family, you sacrificed the love of my life. My sister. The woman I view as a more of a mother than mine ever was. Her daughter." Ember shook her head, pulling her feet up onto the seat. "This isn't something I can forgive you for. So either turn this rover around now while we can still save our friends, or deal with me hating you."

Clarke shook her head slowly. "I'm sorry, Ember. I've made my choice."

Ember scoffed, turning towards the window. "Then I've made mine."

"I'm keeping the kids safe, you're really going to hate me for that?"

Ember didn't turn to face her. "You think the Valley is safe for us right now?"

"Safer than Polis," Clarke argued. She stopped the rover, taking a look into the backseat. She eyed the collar that Madi wore. Ember was too busy staring out the glass to notice Clarke reach back and try to take off the collar.

Madi jumped awake, slapping Clarke's hand away. "Stop! Were you-" her eyes went wide. "No."

She turned around, bolting out of the rover, Clarke quickly taking after her. The twins had woken up, Lincoln trying to crawl up front and into Ember's lap. "Lincoln, I'm gonna get out of the rover to check on those. Stay in here with your sister, okay?"

He stopped trying, crossing his arms with a pout. "Fine."

Ember came out just in time to see Clarke grab Madi to stop her from crawling up a hill. "Now get down from there!" The two rolled down the hill, Clarke landing on top of Madi. "I'm sorry, are you okay?"

Madi stayed still for a moment before struggling against Clarke. "I said no!"

"That thing is not staying in your head," Clarke said, both her and Madi standing up.

"Yes, it is! If you want to take it, you're gonna have to kill me."

Ember's eyes went wide. "Madi-"

"What?" Madi turned to Ember quickly. "She's willing to let Bellamy die and Indra and Gaia. Why not us?"

Clarke grabbed Madi saying, "get in the rover."

"No! Get off!"

"We are not doing this now."

As Madi struggled against Clarke with verbal protests, she finally asked, "Why are you doing this? I need to go back. Commanders don't run away."

Clarke raised an eyebrow at Madi. "Well, it's a good thing you're not a commander." She continued to try to get Madi into the rover. "Damn it, Madi! I thought the flame was supposed to make you wise. You're acting like the child who attacked me in the woods."
