Clarke was just starting to feel better. Ember wasn't sure why she hadn't gotten sick, but she was thankful for it. She'd been having morning sickness almost every day, and when she wasn't sick she was taking care of Clarke or trying to dig them out of the lab.
Most of Clarke's burns had healed, and she was finally not sleeping most of the day. Ember had grabbed some of the food that the group had left behind, and moved up the stairs to the office. Clarke laid on the couch, just now waking up.
"Hey," Ember said, setting the food down at the desk before continuing to the couch. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I should be dead," Clarke replied.
It was the first words she'd said since Praimfaya had hit, and Ember couldn't help but smile despite the grim tone. "You'll probably continue to feel like that, but you're healing."
There had been a few times of the last week where Ember had thought that Clarke might die. She'd been sick, very sick. But Ember had done all that she could, even giving Clarke some of her blood with the help of an extra med kit because she thought her blonde friend was running low from coughing so much of it up.
Clarke's eyes widened slightly. "The nightblood worked?"
Ember laughed, nodded quickly. "It worked. You're gonna live, Clarke."
She wasn't sure for how long though. They were already running low on food, and were trapped down in the lab. Ember had been trying to dig them out, but it was taking a long time, especially since she'd started rationing the food and lacked the energy to work throughout the whole day.
"But what?" Clarke asked, seeing the look on Ember's face.
She shook her head, not wanting to worry Clarke. "Don't worry about it, are you hungry?"
"Starving."
Ember grinned, moving to the desk and coming back with the food. "It's not a lot, I'm trying to ration it."
"Smart plan, do you know how much we have?"
"I'd say with me eating for two, about two months. I've been sneaking an extra thing here and there."
Clarke took a bite of the food and let out a groan. Ember had tried to feed her, but she hadn't been able to do much during Clarke's recovery. Anything Clarke had been able to swallow usually came right back up. "So fill me in."
"We're trapped down here," Ember admitted. "The top of the lab crumbled with Praimfaya, and it'll take a while for the two of us to get ourselves out. The good news, is that we saved our friends."
"But did we kill ourselves in the process?" Clarke asked, and Ember knew they'd both been thinking it.
"I'm not sure," Ember said. "Praimfaya would've killed everything living thing on the ground. Plants, animals. I'm not sure how we'll eat. We would have easy access to water since the radiation won't affect us."
"It won't? Even after I got this sick?"
Ember shook her head. "You got sick before you got better. Once you're fully healed, you shouldn't get sick again."
"That means that if we get to the bunker in Polis, we can save everyone!"
Ember bit her lip. "Maybe."
"What do you mean?"
With a sigh, Ember stood up. "Praimfaya made the top half of the lab crumble and trap us down here. This building was more stable than the temple and tower in Polis. If those fell too..."
"Then they'll be trapped down there and the two of us won't be able to get them out."
Ember nodded. "we'll have to wait five years for Bellamy and the others to come back down, then figure out a plan with them to save everyone down there."
