HE recognised each of the seven figures even though they had their hoods on. they had been there for him when no one else was. they were the only people he could trust, the only ones who he could call his family. but to see them like this, to see them trying to kill him hurt taeyong more than it would if a bullet pierced his heart.

it felt as if somebody was ripping his insides out to see his best friends and the boys he had treated like his very own brothers stand against him.

but he didn't let it show on his face. he maintained the same cold and heartless look that lee taeyong was known for. he stared at each of them with eyes that showed no emotions.

jaemin, taeil, jeno, doyoung, jaehyun, jisung and donghyuck stood before them. they were the members along with taeyong who were in charge of korea. taeyong was their leader before the everything fell apart. doyoung stood in the center and taeyong assumed that he had taken over their leadership.

"nice to meet you again taeyong." doyoung said taking off his hood to reveal a satisfied smirk painted on his face. "we see you've got a new friend here." he motioned towards jennie.

taeyong looked over to see a confused jennie but he was surprised that her face showed no signs of fear. maybe she was and taeyong couldn't blame her even if she was scared but he couldn't help but feel proud seeing her throw away her fear and put on a confident facade.

"what do you want?" taeyong's voice cut through the air like a knife.

"oh nothing much, we just want you dead." doyoung calmly replied.

"why? i didn't do anything wrong."

"anything wrong?" doyoung chuckled. "anything wrong? you fucking betrayed us." the smirk on his face was now gone, replaced by pure anger.

"we trusted you taeyong and you betrayed us. remember your oath?" the memories of when he first joined nct came flooding into his mind. at that time he didn't fully understand what he was getting himself into.

"you betray, you die."

"i told you this before and i'm telling you again. i did not betray you. i wasn't the one who leaked the whereabouts." he tried his best not to yell. losing your patience while talking to the opposition meant showing your weakness and also losing the any tiny chance you had of making peace with them.

he examined faces of his friends. the older ones were successful at keeping their faces blank but the younger ones namely donghyuck, jeno, jaemin and jisung weren't. after all they were just kids. taeyong always pitied them for getting tangled up in such a mess at a tender age.

but they were too orphans just like him with no other options. they had no home, no one to take care of and had never felt love before. they did what they did to survive in this cold and dark world.

whenever taeyong tried to take care of them as much as possible. they sometimes even joked saying that he was their mother.

taeyong dreamt of a day when he would take the place of lee soo man, the man who was the founder of nct and also the one who lead all their teams. he wanted to take his place not for the power that came with it or for the money, but to set free everyone tangled up in the mess.

"i'm so fucking tired of you lee taeyong." doyoung spoke of his name in disgust. "as much hate to do this, you've left me with no other choice."

"boys." he motioned towards taeyong and jennie as the six sprinted towards them.
