JENNIE let out a small yawn as the rising sun made it's soft golden rays fall upon her. it had been a few hours since she had been driving while taeyong fell asleep like a baby. so far their journey to busan had been going smoothly without any interruptions from the police or taeyong's former friends. yet both of them never let their guard down, the situation seemed too good to be true.

"you look tired, let me take over."

his voice made her jump. she didn't know he was awake until she turned to the side and saw him staring at her.

"you scared the shit out of me." she huffed. "how long have you been awake and staring at me?"

he let out a small chuckle. "long enough to know that you're tired. i never actually sleep you know."

"come on, let me take the wheel. i'm well aware of this area. i know a safe place, we could stop there and take a break."

"okay." she agreed. she didn't feel like speaking, she didn't feel like doing anything. too many emotions and feelings ran through her. so many that it made her numb.

they switched seats and taeyong drove them to whichever place he seemed to be talking about. she didn't question him by now she had grown to trust him a little. even if he seemed to take notice of the change in her behavior, he didn't say anything.

she couldn't help but her eyes roam all over him. then she noticed something she hadn't before. a tattoo of black ink on his neck.

TY.KA.01 it said.

she was curious as to what it meant. taeyong saw her staring at his neck and quickly tried to adjust his t-shirt to cover up the ink.

"it's a brand. every member of nct has one." he answered before she could ask any questions. "i hate mine." he gritted his teeth.

he hated it ever since the day it was etched into his skin. it made him feel like an object. their boss made sure being branded was the first thing that happened to a person once they entered the gang. it was like he wanted them to be reminded of their place everytime they looked at it.

TY was short for taeyong. he had insisted that TG would've been better because the others were going to get the first and last letter of their names but their boss, lee soo man cut him off saying TY sounded better. taeyong never understood how his brains worked. he seemed completely out of his minds.

KA stood for korea which was the country in which taeyong was based. they had their bases in china, thailand, japan, u.s.a and canada as well though their biggest one was in korea.

01 because taeyong was the first member of nct. he was the best amongst the others in training. even though he hadn't trained for long, lee soo man seemed to have gained special interest in him which lead him to be the first official member. becoming a part of nct was way harder than other gangs. nct's boss liked them to be trained and well versed various forms of combats, weapons and technology.

a certain memory came to his mind whenever he saw the brand.

"i don't want this." donghyuck said to him the night taeyong got his brand. donghyuck had been crying his eyes out in a corner when taeyong found him. their boss had declared that donghyuck would soon become a part of nct and even though it seemed to be a good thing to the others, he was distraught about it even after training for it for so long.

"i don't want to be a part of this. i don't want to kill. i want to leave." donghyuck sobbed to him. taeyong had always seen donghyuck as a strong boy, always excelling in all his practices.

"i know, i know." taeyong tried to comfort him but he wasn't the best at it. "none of us want to be a part of this-"

"-but we have no choice. we have to do what he asks of us."

taeyong wondered how he was. the last time he saw him, he was trying to kill him. it was a sign for taeyong to move on, to leave them behind. he wanted nothing more than to start fresh, leave his old life behind, work a normal job which didn't include killing or torturing people but the whole universe seemed to be against it.

if he had just been a little more careful that night, things would've been different today.
