THE two girls waited and waited. it felt like hours when they heard footsteps approach. before their cell door stood a boy, who couldn't have been older than 18 years of age. his tan skin was glowing even in the little light outside. chaeyoung hadn't seen him before but jennie had. even though that day at the alley was mostly a blur, she could recognise him. he was the one who threw her a wall causing the bruise she still had.

he wore what seemed like a blank expression at first until you looked at those eyes who seemed to be crying in agony. in his hands were two trays with barely any food in them. he opened the door, and got in the room to place the trays and take back the old ones. jennie's eyes trailed every action of his while chaeyoung blankly stared at the wall across them, refusing to look at any one of them.

he bent down to pick the tray. the black shirt which hung loosely on him exposed his tattoo.

DY.KA.10.

jennie knew what the tattoo meant. taeyong had told her what the letters and the numbers stood for. realisation struck her. she knew the boy's name. her memory took her back to the conversation she had with taeyong in the car. he mentioned donghyuck, a young boy who was just too afraid of what he was becoming. taeyong told her how donghyuck had become a brother to him.

jennie tried to push her nerves down. "donghyuck?" she called out in a small voice, unsure of what she was doing.

the boy's neck snapped back as his eyes widened with shock. chaeyoung too looked up with a puzzled look on her face.

"how do you know my name?" his voice was cold and devoid of any emotion but suprise.

"taeyong." jennie said answering his question.

hurt flashed across donghyuck's face. taeyong had always been someone he looked up to. yes, taeyong had done bad things but unlike the other guys he actually regretted it. he felt guilt. donghyuck had always thought of him as a brother he never had, someone he could go to whenever he needed to rant or pour his heart out.

he couldn't do that with the others. they would call him weak, saying that only a failure would still act so weak after so many years of training. after all he wasn't supposed to feel pain or guilt, that's what the training was for. that's what he was trained for from the mere age of 14. when the other boys his age were having fun being and young, donghyuck would be cooped up in the dark training room practicing how to hurt inflict pain on others, how to kill.

when taeyong ran away, donghyuck felt betrayed. he felt hurt. why couldn't taeyong have taken him too? taeyong knew very well how much he was suffering.

his adam's apple bobbed. "what do you want?" he kept his voice low.

"help us."

donghyuck snickered. "and exactly why should i do that?"

"donghyuck, i know what they're doing to you. i know how much hate doing this. i know you want to get out of here, just like us." jennie kept her voice soft. she pitied him.

there was a crack in his wall. jennie saw his facade falter so she kept going. "you didn't have a choice back then. but you do now. help us get out of here. we can escape. you can escape."

escape. a six lettered word that he yearned for. he wanted to escape. but could one really escape from this world of crime?

"it's not as easy as you think." he let out a bitter laugh. "you can't escape. neither can i. i don't know and i what don't care what lies taeyong has told you. you better shut the fuck up before you get me and yourself in trouble." he spat through his gritted teeth while he glared. hastily, he walked to the door and locked it shut before leaving.

his thoughts were preoccupied with jennie's words. even if they tried to, they wouldn't let them escape. you betray, you die. how could he forget the oath that made his life living hell? he walked through the hallway of their underground base. the metallic smell of blood was lingering around one of the doors. he peeped in to see a body of a man laying on the floor. it was another one of the cells. the man wasn't dead but he was brutally injured. his wounds looked like they had been patched up probably by jungwoo, who was in charge of all their medical issues.

donghyuck recognised the man to be one of the two men who got into trouble with their boss. drug dealing was a side business of lee soo man. donghyuck himself had delivered some of his deliveries. the wounded man was a frequent customer. earlier the month, he and his friend who was also a regular costumer stole from the supplies of their illegal substances. they ran away before they could be caught.

the man on the floor was kim jeonseok and the other one was named park sejoon. park sejoon was recently found murdered in his apartment. the weird thing was, he was suspected to be murdered by the same person they were holding captive. kim jennie.

the world was indeed very small.
