NO one had ever taeyong of all people to run away from the gang and that was exactly what taeyong was going to do. the thought of it made him stay up at night trying to scheme ways to escape but no matter which way he looked at it, it would probably end badly.

the day he snapped was when they were ordered to kill the wife and five year old kid of a man who seemed to have interfered in lee soo man's business. he didn't tell them the details of what the man did. all the knew was that he had upset their boss.

the little boy's eyes stared at taeyong with fear as he towered above him while his mother begged them to leave her son alone.

he couldn't do it. his grip on the gun in his hand loosened. he couldn't kill innocent people anymore. he couldn't bear to look at what he had become.

monster.

that's what he was. he was a monster.

the gun fell on the floor as he turned his back to the mother and her child. "what are you doing? we've got orders to kill them." doyoung's voice said from behind him.

"well i just got new orders from the command." the command, that's what they called lee soo man.

"we're supposed to leave them and return to the headquarters immeadiately." taeyong declared. it was obviously a lie but taeyong was the leader, the others had to follow his orders.

the others exchanged glances before following him out of the house. he didn't know what he was doing or what happened to him in there. the command would probably punish him and his team severely for not obeying his orders.

they returned to their headquarters. taeyong's nerves had started to kick in now. he had done something crazy but he would probably get in trouble for it rather than killing innocent people. he rushed to his room and grabbed his bag from under his bed. the bag contained a small amount of money, a gun, extra bullets for the gun and some other essentials. he always had it ready so that in case of an emergency he could just escape with it.

with the bag in one hand, he headed out of his room only to be met face to face with doyoung. taeyong mentally cursed at his timing.

"where are you going?" doyoung's voice cut through the air like a knife.

"i've got an important mission. it's none of your business."

taeyong was shorter than doyoung but it never seemed to bother him. taeyong's aura and confidence was enough to make everyone before him feel small. doyoung always envied him for that.

"oh really? well the command is very upset about something and is expecting your presence in his office immeadiately." doyoung said, not budging from his spot.

before taeyong could even think of a reply their fire alarms started blaring. red light flashed. the two turned their heads around looking for what happened. jungwoo's  footsteps echoed down the hallway.

the tension on his face was clearly visible and he did nothing to hide it. "it's the police, they're here. someone leaked our coordinates. we have to get out of here." jungwoo's voice was tainted with fear and panic. "we have get out using passage number 2." and with that he proceeded to run towards the passage.

that was the cause of the fire alarms going off. it was their protocol that if the location of their headquarters were to have gotten out and the police found out, the whole building had to be set on fire so that the police aren't able to get a hold of any of their things or any of their members. if you don't escape in time, you burn to death.

doyoung's eyes filled with anger glared at taeyong. "you! you leaked the coordinates! and you're trying to escape now?"

dread washed over taeyong as he realised what doyoung was accusing him of. "no! it wasn't me!" taeyong implored.

"then why were you trying to escape with the bag? why did you call off the damn mission and then lie to us?"

doyoung's voice raged like a fire. if he waited longer taeyong knew it would burn him down. with all the power he could muster, taeyong landed a swift and strong punch on doyoung's stomach, knocking him down. this gave taeyong the opportunity he needed to escape.

his feet worked fast. passage number 2 was underground and it lead them out a a mile or two from the westside of the headquarters. doyoung's footsteps followed not to far behind him. but taeyong was a fast runner and it was almost impossible for doyoung to catch up with him.

the smoke from the fire was everywhere. the fire was spreading quickly. he coughed as sweat trickled down his face when he reached the entrance to passage 2. the door was already open meaning most of the others had already escaped and that him and doyoung were one of the last.

he had never been inside there before. darkness surrounded him. he had no source of light to guide him. his phone was left behind by him so that he wouldn't be tracked after he escaped and he regretted not putting a flashlight in his bag before.

he ran and ran through the dark. the cold air inside felt like it was cutting through  his skin. finally after what felt like an eternity he saw the exit. the exit to the passage was out an old alley right in the middle of the city which seemed quite stupid now that taeyong thought about it.

he got out and slipped on his mask. the bright street lights hurt his eyes after being in darkness for so long. he walked on bustling street. by now most of the members must've already be on their way to another one of their quarters. he didn't know which one. it could be the one in daejeon or even busan or someplace else.

the part that worried him was doyoung had probably escaped and he would have the rest of the gang on his tail in no time.

he didn't have much money. atleast not enough for him to escape south korea. he passed by a small bank and found his answer.

he had robbed a few banks before. it wouldn't hurt to rob a bank one last time. he got in and took the gun out as screams of the people rang through his ears. the rest was a blur. he shot one of the men trying to get in his way on the leg, got the money, broke into a random car and started driving it as the sirens followed him.

it took a while for it to click in his mind that he had finally escaped. escaped not only from the burning building but also from the gang. he was free now. he could do whatever he wished, he didn't have to follow orders anymore. he wasn't member 01 anymore. he was lee taeyong.

it had been a few minutes of driving and a dozen of police officers were still following him. he saw a convenient store ahead. seeing this as a perfect opportunity, he rushed inside.

there she was, a small brunette getting her things checked out at the counter. she was his ticket to getting rid of the police.
