The prior owner of the Story Inn, and intelligent and jovial woman, was being dead stern when she told about her encounters. She was standing in the kitchen of the restaurant, and felt a cold whoosh go by. She walked to the top of the stairs leading into the basement wine cellar and saw a woman in flowing white robes at the bottom of the stairs. The apparition then vanished. Her encounter was no secluded incident either.

Several employees described first hand encounters with the apparition. All the accounts are similar: glimpses of a female ghost, things appearing without reason, and things moving without explanation. One waitress was carrying food to a guest when the plate literally blow up in her hand, and several people witnessed the event.

The Story Inn employees truly believe in the ghost. I guess once you've seen a ghost, you're not to be persuaded that ghosts do not exist.

The StoryInn currently has fourteen rooms or cottages, four of which are above the restaurant. For several years, the Inn has kept a guest book in each room wherein guests may write about their stay, or anything else that comes to mind. In these books there are numerous handwritten stories of ghostly sightings, particularly in the rooms above the restaurant. These stories were signed and dated by the guests. Here are a few excerpts from these guest books.

Many eyewitnesses believe that the ghost, known locally as the "Blue Lady" because she can supposedly be summoned by turning on a blue light in one of the rooms above the restaurant, is one of the wives of Dr. George Story. This room's history is so astonishing that it was renamed after the "Blue Lady" in 2001.

Hoosier Paranormal investigated the Story on 27 December 2005, and concluded that the StoryInn is haunted by two ghosts and not one. They had a strange feeling of being followed around the property by something unseen. It gave them an uncomfortable feeling at times.
