There is a possibility that the college campus is the most haunted in the entire United States, if not in the world. Just one year after statehood in 1804, the University was established, and was the nation's first institution of higher learning west of the Appalachian Mountains. The total number of haunted places on campus is noteworthy enough, and that's not even counting the several other folklore floating around Athens County. FOX network even taped an episode of its Scariest Places on Earth at Ohio University.
DELTA TAU DELTA:
According to stories the members of this fraternity instantly began to experience supernatural poltergeist activity in their house after they stole a tombstone from the notoriously haunted SimmsCemetery. They finally returned the stone and were left alone after that.
ALPHA OMICRON PHI:
A slave called Nicodemus haunts this fraternity. It was once the Zeta Tau Alpha House, but before that it was a private residence and a stop on the Underground Railroad. They say that when locals found out that the house at 24 E, Washington was a haven for fugitive slaves they stormed it. They managed to find only Nicodemus hiding there, and shot him as he fled through a hidden tunnel. For years after that he haunted the building. Back in 1972 and 1973 the Zeta Tau Alpha girls had prevalent run-ins with him. Later it was the Sigma Nu frat house, then Alpha Omicron Pi Epsilon. Is it just a concurrence, or do the Greek groups keep moving because of the peculiar disturbances?
