Aiden's POV:
I swayed on my feet as I forcefully took out the English book from my locker.
That's what happens, Aiden, if you stay up the whole night. I scolded myself. Now, great, I'm talking to myself.
How could I fall asleep if my best friend-cum-boyfriend sat by the door and begged to talk to me? I felt bad, the worst actually, but I was hurt too that he kept the truth away from me.
"Aiden, please, let me explain." I heard Enid's voice and shut my locker with a loud bang. I started to walk toward my class. "Come on, let me just give a chance."
I hated to hear the helplessness in his voice. It was making me want to hug him, but no. I entered the classroom without sparing him one look and went to the abandoned chair at the back of the class.
It was perfect. Enid would have to sit in his usual place and not beside me.
Everything was fine for a few seconds before I heard scraping noise beside me. I looked over to see Enid taking Sara's chair and placing it next to mine. I huffed loudly when I saw Sara and June sitting in our usual chairs, throwing looks at us and giggling between themselves.
Enid just sat there, not trying to talk anymore. All the chattering stopped when our English teacher, Mrs. Daley, entered the room as soon as the bell rang.
She looked over the class once, calculating who was-slash-were absent for the class and who might have done the assignment and who might not. Her eyes stopped at our seats and she frowned.
"Aiden, Enid, why are you guys at the back of the class?" Mrs. Daley asked. "Done your assignments?"
"Yes, ma'am." Enid replied. I nodded my head without saying anything.
"Then, why're you there?" She asked again, doubting our answers.
"Lover's spat probably." Emmett said as he snickered.
The whole class burst out laughing. Beside me, Enid chuckled too.
"That's true." He said under his breath.
I glared at him, but did not say anything to him, not trusting my voice not to crack. He looked up at me sadly, his lower lip jutted out.
The classes were unbearably lengthy. I was feeling guilty enough for making him beg me. He could stop pursuing me anytime and he knew that I would talk to him again, of course, but when I get to calm myself down finally.
I splashed water on my face and looked at my reflection in the bathroom's mirror through my hair. Skipping this class was better for both of us. It was the last class of the day and then we had practice today.
I got out of the bathroom and went for the stairs that led to the second floor. I had to stop in my tracks when I heard some familiar voices. Some people are skipping class like me.
"... have to tell you that I didn't tell him." My breath hitched as I realized it was Enid.
"Then how did he come to know about the whole thing, huh?" Amy? She was in this too?
"Are you kidding me, Amy? Dri should've told him the truth." Enid's voice was furious. "She shouldn't have done it in the first place anyway. I just wanted him to know about the whole thing from the culprit herself."
"It's none of your business." Dri hissed. The hold on my bag tightened.
"It is my business. Aiden is my business. He's, he's everything to me and now, he doesn't even..."
I peeked down to see Enid leaning against the wall, shoulders slouched, eyes downcasted. Dri and Amy were glaring at him furiously.
"Serves you right for poking your nose where it does not belong."
This side of Dri was very new to me, yet very familiar. I cleared my throat as I walked down the stairs.
Three pairs of wide eyes looked up at me.
"Aiden-" Enid started, but I ignored him and spoke to Dri directly.
"Should you be giving any kind of advices to him?"
"Aiden, he's lying to you." She tried to reach up to touch my shoulder, but I stepped back.
"I've enough sense to understand who is lying on my face and who's not. Please, I can't even look at you right now. Just, go away." I told her, staring right past her.
"Aiden, don't be mean to her." Any was quick to defend her friend.
"Does Rick know about this, that you're involved?" I asked and watching her eyes getting bigger, I realized just how much everyone was in the dark.
Amy walked away and Dri followed the suit, after opening and closing her mouth for more than once. I turned around and glared at the person whom I thought would never lie to me or hide anything from me, no matter what.
"Are you still not talking to me?" I hated the voice in which he was talking to me.
"What're the other things you've been hiding from me?" I asked angrily. I needed clear answer.
He smiled at me. "Noth-", then he seemed to remember something and took a step toward me and then another.
I had to take a step back to let him conclude that I was still angry with him. I had to stop when my back hit the wall. I was trapped between the wall and Enid.
He was so close that I could feel his breath on my ear. His fingers traced down my cheek. My throat and lips dried up.
"What is it?" I was dreading the answer. What if it was something that I could not take?
"I've something that I've yet to tell you, a deep secret." He whispered into my ear. My eyes closed on their own. "Do you wanna know that?"
"Do I?" My voice cracked under the intensity I was feeling.
"I love you, Aiden." He said in a low voice as if it were just for the two of us, none was allowed to know about this precious little secret. "I love you so much. I didn't mean to hide it from you. As soon as I got the picture that Dri had faked all of these, I wanted to tell you, but then I thought it would be better if you come to hear the truth from her own mouth." He sighed. "But, what happened, huh? She lied again."
He leaned into me and put his forehead against mine.
"I would've believed you if you'd told me." I told him, but something clicked into place when he did not respond in any way. I pulled away from him to take a good look at his face. "You weren't sure that I would believe you, were you?"
He tried to protest, but I pushed him away from me. All these years of friendship and he thought I would trust someone else over him?
How could he?
What would he do if he were in my position?
I walked down the stairs, ignoring his calls, out of the school building and in the parking area. I drove out of the school, not bothering to show up for the practice.
I was angry and it was with myself.
A/n: It is so satisfying that I finally have the time to update this book.
Well, the next chapter will be the last one and I am happy and sad at the same time.
Anyway, enjoy!
