chapter 9: Aubreys predicament

we all hopped into the bird and sped off to Aubreys house.

Helix looked pissed, and Jeremiah looked like he was going to be sick. We screeched into the driveway, and skidded to a stop. I jumped out, and spinted around the back. I pried open the kitchen window, and climbed inside. I heard a scream in the living room as my dad dragged Aubreys mum into the kitchen. I glared at him as Helix and Jeremiah busted through the front door. They ducked as my dad fired the gun at the door. He hit my car. damn him! i rushed forward and punched him in the face as hard as i could. he looked at me soberly for a moment, then the drunken look came right back and he roundhouse kicked me across the room into the cabinets. i spat out blood onto the floor and grimaced. broken ribs. I climbed up off of the floor and grabbed a knife from the rack. he came at me and i spat blood in his face, smiling with blood covered lips, as i held up the knife.

He glared at me and flung Aubreys mum backwards into the wall. He held the gun towards me.

"drop the knife, sweetheart. ill let everyone but you live." he said.

I shook my head no.

quick decision. I kicked his hand that held the gun, and it went flying. I cringed in pain. He doubled over as someone kicked him in the gonads. I took my shot, and stabbed him in the shoulder so he wouldnt die. he ran out the door to the back yard as he crippled in pain.

I sighed, took one look at Helix, who had kicked my dad, and collapsed. I heard Aubrey come in and start to cry. I heard Helix tell Jeremiah to get Aubrey in the front seat as he picked me up and sat in the back, cradling me against the door of my bird. Jeremiah put the bawling Aubrey in the front seat, and told her to call an ambulance for her mother and cops for my father. Jeremiah hopped into the drivers' side, and took off to the nearest hospital.

I blacked out to Helix telling me it was going to be alright.

I wake up in a hospital with no one in the room. I frown at the nurse who comes in to check on me five minutes later. I ask her where my friends are, and she just looked at me and left.

two minutes later im being swarmed by Helix and Aubrey. Aubrey starts to cry into her hands. Helix is staring down at me in wonder. Jeremiah comes in to take Aubrey back out into the waiting room. they close the door.

"Why are u staring at me like that?

"you had the nerve to stand up to your dad...how did you do it?" he said.

I shrugged, grimaced a little, and said, "i dunno, he hit my mum, he hit me, and someone had to teach him not to fuck with people i care about. Aubreys' mum is like my own mum. Shes more of my mum that my actual mum is. I couldnt let him take that away from me."

He frowned, kissed my forehead, and said, "i wouldnt have let him."

I smiled. He sat in a chair next to my bed, held my hand, then five minutes later fell asleep. I painfully grabbed my phone to check the time. It was 11 when i got the call from Aubrey, it was 4 now. meaning they probably hadnt slept while i was out.

I was tired too despite being out for four and a half hours, so i drifted off to sleep. I was definatly skipping school today.
