"What?" She asked me. I had just asked Sabrina if she could watch my little sister for me after she got out of school cause I had to work after and I didn't want her there alone.
Cole had texted me that she only had a total of 4 classes after checking her schedule where I had an extra two. Now she was looking at me like I had poped a pimple in her face.
"I gotta work after school and I know you have no–"
"I'm trying to see why you think it's suddenly cool to talk to me again. Like when I didn't speak to you 3rd period, that should have been your cue to leave me the fuck alone." She said as I followed her. She stopped at her locker and I watched as she pulled her backpack out and put her things away before slamming it shut. I grabbed her by the hand turning her my way.
"I know you mad at me. You should be. I get that, but can you do me this huge favor and watch my sister for me? I don't like her at home alone with that witch." I said to her. She looked at me sideways and bit at her lip to keep from smiling.
"Your stepmom?" She asked. I shook my head and let go of her hand.
"My dad's girlfriend. I'd take me and Bella away if he married that lady." I said to her. She looked down away from me at her backpack and thought it over then nodded slowly.
"Alright. How much you paying me?" She asked. A light playful smile on her face now as she began to walk again. I paced myself beside her and sighed.
"You expect me to pay you?" I asked her. She looked at me sideways and nodded.
"You did say baby sit." She said making a point. I shrugged.
"More like just keep an eye on her. She don't do much. If anything, expect her to run you. She a lil bossy kid. She cute, but she bossy." I said to her. She chuckled and nodded.
"Is that why you come to school with a lil barrette in your head?" She asked me. I scrunched my face up at her.
What she talking about?
"What?" I asked repeating her one phrase from earlier. She stopped me by placing her hand on my abs and pulled my head down to her level. I thought her fine as was about to kiss me until she reached up and pulled something from my head. She pulled back away from me and held a blue plastic barrette in front of her so I could see. I snatched it and looked at it before I looked at her.
"That lil bugger... She must have put this in my head when I hugged her before she got on the bus." I said to Sabrina as we started to walk again. It was lunch time and my stomach was growling loudly. I kept wondering if she could hear it, but she didn't stop to investigate.
"That's cute." She chuckled as she walked in tune with me. I tried my best not to stop and look down at her or look at her in general.
"She's a handful. So I apologise ahead of time." I said to her. I could feel her eyes on me but paid her no mind as I followed her to the front of the building and out into the afternoon light. It was raining lightly and kinda humid. I thanked the schoolboard for being smart enough to have an overhead visor in the front of the school unlike the sides and the back.
"What's the pay method?" She asked me yet again. I raised a brow at her and shrugged thinking.
"I'll uh... I'll pay you after I come back from work." I said to her. She nodded and was about to leave from under the shelter of the building to her car but I pulled her back. "You need the address first." I said to her.
"Right.. You have a habit of pulling on people." She said gesturing down at my hand around her arm. I let go and backed up slightly.
"My bad. I'm just- I don't know. Have a good day." I said to her turning away from her. I could feel my face burning up in embarrassment.
