"Have a safe night ma'am. Get your husband to cover the window with a trash bag and some tape for now. We gave your landlord a call so he should be here in the morning." He informed me. I nodded and watched them leave out the front door before walking to the kitchen to get the broom.
"Did you hear that? He thought I was your husband." Cody laughed walking past me to get some scissors, tape and, a black trash bag.
"That's really all you heard out of that sentence?" I asked. He stood up at the kitchen table and looked my way without a word.
"It's got a ring to it." He said as he cut open the bag. I looked up from sweeping at my dad with his bags as soon as the front door slammed closed.
"What happened?" He asked looking around before dropping his bags on the floor then looked over at Cody accusingly.
"A metal pipe." I chimed in.
He looked over at me sweeping and snatched the broom."Yo, you really got my daughter sweeping up-"
"Dad, it's fine." I assured him.
"No it's not. Where's your shoes? Cody!" He yelled at him. Cody jumped, stopped what he was doing, and gave him his undivided attention. "Can you please stop cutting up bags and help her back to her room?" He asked. Cody nodded and I shook my head.
"Dad, I'm just doing my part. Leave me alone Cody." I said to him before he could touch me. Cody backed up and held his hands up.
"Yel, I got it. Cody, take her to her room. That's finale." He said sternly. I groaned and pouted.
"Yes sir." Cody wrapped his arms around me and lifted me up like I weighed nothing. He carried me to my room and placed me on the bed. "Sorry. He kinda scares me." He apologized.
"Whatever. What are you doing?" I asked him as he sat down in front of me on the floor.
"Checking for glass." He said wiping off my feet. I wiggled my toes and laughed. "What are you doing?" He countered.
"It tickles." I smiled down at him. He chuckled and stood back up.
"Do you still want me to stay or-"
"Come, come." I said patting the bed beside me. I looked over at Bella's sleeping body and tucked her under the covers before I did the same.
Cody shut the light off and used the hall light to navigate to me. He slid in the bed and sighed.
"So did you enjoy your day?" He asked out of nowhere. I nodded and grabbed his hand just so he could feel Bubby kicking. "He's gonna be a headache." He said playfully.
"Don't say that Cody." I said to him as he continued to touch my stomach. He ran his fingers along my stomach like I was a keyboard and I gasped as the painful kick I got in return. "Please don't do that either. I think he just got mad because you're waking him up. I don't want him kicking my bladder while I try to sleep." I informed him.
"Sorry. Didn't know." He said to me quietly. He went back to rubbing my stomach and looked at me.
"It's okay. So what happened to the girl that you told me about? She any nice?" I asked him. He shrugged.
