I woke up to the sound of rain pouring down on the city, much harder than it had been recently. I sighed and rolled over, surprised to find an empty bed. I watched the rain hit my widows and roll off, temporarily memsmerized. As I watched the rain, my bedroom door opened, and I rolled over to see who had entered the room. When I saw it was Dean, I sat up, and the memories of last night came back. I smiled at him, and he gave me a half smile in return. He sat on the edge of my bed and looked at me expectantly.

"What?" I asked when he didn't say anything.

"You tell me. What happened last night?"

"What do you mean?"

He sighed. "Where did you go?"

I tried to recall what had happened, but I couldn't come up with anything. I had told them I didn't feel well, and Dean said if I wanted to go to bed he'd be right up.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." I told him honestly.

"Are you serious?"

I nodded. "What happened?"

"You disappeared. You said you didn't feel good, and then you were gone. Sam and I were downstairs and outside looking for you, and Mason and Luke came upstairs to look, and Mason found you in here."

"Really?"

"Yes. What happened?"

Even after he had told me, nothing came to mind. I shook my head. "I don't remember."

Dean nodded. "Okay. Should I try to talk to Cas?"

I bit my lip, an apprehensive feeling appearing in my stomach at the mention of Castiel. "I guess?"

Dean nodded again before standing up and leaving the room. I sighed, trying to remember what had happened.

After a while- with no results- I left my room, going dowstairs.

Sam, Luke, and Mason were at the breakfast bar, drinking coffee and eating donuts. I joined them, asking where Dean was.

"Outside. Castiel's here." Luke answered.

"Where?"

"With Dean."

I nodded, grabbing a donut from the pink box in the middle of the island.

"So.. what are we doing today?" I asked after an uncomfortable silence.

"Dean wants to go to the alley." Sam said quietly.

I knew it was coming soon, but I didn't know it would be today. I sighed, running my hands through my hair. "Okay. What are we going to do? What's the plan?"

"We? No, you're not going to be involved." Sam scoffed.

"And why not?"

"She could be used as a distraction," Mason spoke up. "If we make it look like she's there instead of Dean and then Dean comes in-"

"Absolutely not." Sam said, cutting him off. He looked back to me. "You're staying with Mason and Luke. The rest of us are going to back up Dean."

"No!" Luke argued. "I'm not staying behind."

"Neither am I." Mason said.

"Last time you came in contact with this thing, it tried to kill you." Sam snapped at Mason.

Mason flinched. "A drunk driver hit me, not a monster."

"Bullshit."

"Excuse me?"

"You're legs weren't injured." Sam said, accusation in his voice. "You weren't hit by a car. You weren't even in a car."

Mason looked dumbfound, and opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

"Exactly." Sam said. "So why don't you tell us who actually did this to you?"

"I was in a car accident." Mason said when he found his voice.

"Bullshit. Tell us what really happened."

"I was in a car accident!"

"Bullshit. Tell us what really happened." Sam's voice was even, his gaze never faltering.

"I- I was in a car accident."

"Bullshit." Sam said again. "Tell us what really happened."

Before Mason could answer, I asked, "Was it Peter?"

Mason looked at me in complete shock, and I knew then that Peter was the "friend who is not to be trusted."

"Mason-"

Castiel and Dean came into the house then, cutting me off.

"Marilyn, may I speak to you?" Castiel asked immediately. I nodded, standing up and following him out of the house.

"Yes?"

"Last night-"

"What happened?"

Castiel cocked his head to the side, a confused look on his face.

"I really don't remember," I said sheepishly.

"Joshua. He cast you out of your living room, and into Heaven."

"Okay...?"

"He took my form. I just- I didn't want you to think that-" For the first time since I had met Castiel, he seemed unsure of himself and what he was saying.

"I don't even remember it, Castiel." I gave him a small smile.

He nodded. "He did it quite recklessly. That's why you seemed to disappear. But you were safe, that I can promise you."

I nodded. "Thank you."

Castiel looked at the door, and I figured he was done speaking. I turned, beginning to make my way back inside, when he grabbed my wrist to stop me.

"Marilyn?"

I turned around to face him again. "Yes?"

"You have to let Dean go today. We're running out of time."

I sighed. "Yeah... I know." I avoided Castiel's gaze, looking at the rain hitting the street instead. We stood under an over-hang, where we were dry, but cold- at least I was. Castiel seemed unfazed by the cold, but then again, he was an angel. "So what's the plan?"

"I believe Sam already told you."

My gaze snapped back to him, and I was beginning to get annoyed. Maybe I couldn't help, but Mason and Luke definitely could.

"Why don't I just stay on my own? Luke and Mason could help-"

"Then you're vulnerable."

"I can handle myself, thank you very much." I snapped at him.

He didn't look surprised by my harsh tone. "There are more than one." Castiel said calmly.

"What?"

"There are more than one." he repeated.

"What are they?" I asked quietly.

"I don't know," he said, and I could tell he was being honest. "I have been able to find a limited amount of information about them. I know they are a mutated version of a different type of creature, and they were genetically engineered to become what they are. They follow orders, but the person or persons they are obeying could be on the other side of the world."

"How do you kill them?" I asked, plans already forming in my head.

All my plans fell apart when Castiel looked at my sympathetically and said, "From what I can tell, you don't."
