Kellin's POV
I smiled and started scribbling down a few lyrics quickly. The guys had been in town for a few days now and once they caught up with their families, we started working on some music together in my mom's garage. It was just like it was in high school and it was great. It felt like we were finally reconnecting with our roots.
"So, for that one song," Jack said, flipping through my music book once I finished writing.
"Which one song?" I asked.
"Uh, the one about leaving and staying," he told me and I rolled my eyes.
"That's the one about Stephanie and Austin," I told him. "What about it?"
"I was thinking maybe simple two chord for it," he said and grabbed a guitar.
"Let's hear it."
He started playing quietly and I nodded. "I like it," I said nodding my head to the beat. "So, for the first chorus, E5 then C?" I asked him.
"Yep."
We continued to work on it a little longer when Vic, Austin and Alan came into the garage and watched us work together.
"What's this song?" Austin asked.
"Yours," I told him, moving behind the keyboard and started playing with Jack quietly. "Well, the one about you and Steph at least."
"Oh great."
"It sounds really good," Alan told me. "Not as emo as some of the stuff you guys usually play."
"Thanks, I think," I said to him.
"It's a compliment," he said and I smiled.
"Oh my god," Justin said, taking the notebook from Jack.
"What?"
"Is this song calling out the label?" he asked and looked at me. "We Like it Loud?"
I gave him a grin. "Hell yeah it is. I wasn't thinking about sending that one to you, though. It was mainly written out of anger and annoyance."
"I like it."
"I feel like we're back in high school," Austin muttered to Vic who let out an amused laugh.
"Yeah, now all we need is Maggie coming out here to yell at them for being too loud," he said and I shot him a smile.
"Sometimes we played louder than necessary to piss Austin off," I said and looked at Alan since he hadn't been around in high school and explained. "Austin used to really hate my band and complained all the time about it and how we were annoying and how I was embarrassing."
Nick laughed. "Let's be real, high school versions of us were a lot more emo than we are now."
"Isn't everyone a little more emo in high school?" Alan asked, "I mean besides sporty pants over here."
"He had a phase," Vic said. "He tried to be in Kellin's band but they actually told him he was trying too hard."
"Really?" Alan asked looking over at Austin.
He gave a sheepish smile. "Believe it or not, I'm a pretty good screamer."
"Cute."
"Not good for our band, though," Justin said. "Kellin screams every so often but that's enough for us."
"I'm aware," Austin said rolling his eyes.
I smiled and continued playing the piano for a bit as they flipped through my song book.
