It was the day of my sister's wedding. Everyone was focused on making her less stressed & more excited. She was the center of attention. I didn't envy it, I was happy for her. She had finally found the love of her life & they tied the knot. Everything about this day was perfect for her & my family.
The only probably was, I was left heartbroken throughout the entire event. Only hours before the wedding did I receive a text from my boyfriend - well ex boyfriend - saying he thought we should go separate ways. I couldn't function right after that, I was left broken.
Yeah, I did a hell of a job acting like it was all butterflies & rainbows but on the inside I was screaming in agony. My sister was having the best day of her life, I couldn't ruin that with my break up.
Throughout the whole wedding, I daydreamed of having my own. It would be with a nicer guy than the arse I was with before, of course, but it would be magical. Almost like a fairytale.
The dance finally came, my sister stuck with her bridesmaids like a leach while I secluded myself from everyone in the corner of the ball room. Sitting in a chair, I had my charger plugged into the wall while I scrolled through my social media sites on my phone. I was in pure boredom.
Not only because my sister was ignoring me for her sorority sisters but also because I was supposed to be accompanied by my ex to the event. Now, I'm the loner on her phone. What fun.
I wanted to gouge my eyes out when seeing all those cute, adorable couples dancing together. Ugh. Why couldn't I have that? Instead I got a break up text from the douche I thought I loved. I was in a pit of emotions, wanting to leave the stupid dance at any chance I got but no I had to stay because it was my sister's day blah blah blah.
When I finally looked up from my phone, trying my hardest not to acknowledge the couples holding each other (ugh), I noticed a boy. A blonde haired kid that I'd met before.
Niall. Yeah, he was a cutie. He was also my brother-in-law's cousin. I wonder if he could hook us up, I thought to myself, amused by how desperate I was for a mate. Yet I noticed him staring back.
I took a quick look at my reflection on my phone, making sure he wasn't just staring at a piece of frosting left on my cheek. By my surprise, I was decent. Nothing amazing like my sister (double ugh) but I was better than the average girl.
My eyes looked up again, meeting with his. I start to panic when he began to walk my way. Why was I panicking? I have no clue.
A cute boy was heading right towards me & I was feeling as though a serial killer was chasing me with a knife. He retrieved my attention with a tap on the shoulder, having me look up to meet eyes with his ocean blue ones.
"Niall," I nodded, turning back to my phone.
I had no clue why I turned away, he was a sweet, cute guy yet I wasn't in the mood to talk with any person of the opposite sex.
"Ayden," he stepped next to me, taking a seat on the ground to my right with his back leaned against the wall.
"Why so lonely?" he questioned, keeping his gaze on the dance floor.
"Why so nosy?" I smirked, finally removing my eyes from my phone screen.
"Care to dance," he smiled deviously, raising an eyebrow.
"Don't be a flirt."
He sighed, "Oh well."
"Oh well?" I raised a brow.
Biting his nails, he replied, "I thought a single girl like you would like some company by a decent boy after being left so heartbroken."
Awestruck by how he knew & a bit furious, I asked, "Who told you?"
He chuckled at my reaction, replying, "Your sister loves to tell people about your love life."
"That bitch," I sneered, my hands turning into fists by my sides.
"Calm down, darling," he smirked, resting his hand over mine.
I felt a quick spark from the action, possibly something telling me he'd be a perfect partner. Or it could be a warning saying his smartass ways were too irrelevant for me. Whatever it was, it caused me to retrieve my hand away from his & back to my lap.
"I don't bite," he laughed, referring to my action.
My eyes rolled, I turned away, going back to my habit of ignoring & scrolling.
"Don't do this, Ayden," he pouted, resting his chin on my bare shoulder.
"You're acting like a five year old."
"I'm acting like a teenage boy who wants to dance with a teenage girl," he placed his hand over mine again, trying to pry the device from my grasp.
"Ugh, fine Niall," I groaned.
He jumped up from his spot, almost cheering that I finally said yes. I sat my phone in the chair, fixing my dress afterwards. Niall held out his hand which I gladly took. Leading me to the large dance floor, his fingers entwined with mine.
My cheeks turned a soft red, blushing from the small action. A loud, upbeat song was playing when we finally made it to our destination.
Niall, being the adorkable boy he was, showed off his simple dance moves by busting out the sprinkler. Laughing at his moves, I did a mock of the lawn mower. We danced like idiots, causing a circle to form around us.
Everyone was cheering for our stupid, irrelevant moves. We probably looked like idiots but it was the most fun I had that night. Seeing Niall's face light up as he laughed caused a warm feeling to occur in my heart. Yeah, it sounded kind of stupid saying he made my heart smile but that's the best way I could describe it.
Our dance session came to an end when a slower song began to play. The group around us began to departure, people coupling up to slow dance with one another.
A smile grew on my face when Niall took my hand, placing it on his shoulder before doing the same with the other while his were appropriately placed on my hips. We swayed back & forth to the slow rhythm of the music that played around us.
He didn't talk much, neither did I. We mostly gazed into each others eyes, absorbing the moment we were in.
"Ya know, I have to confess something," he finally spoke, breaking me from my stare.
"Yeah? And what's that?"
He smiled that cute smile of his as he replied, "You're really beautiful. Like goddess beautiful, Ayden."
Speechless by his compliment, I held him closer to me while resting my head against his chest. I was surprised by the 'confession', it had me in awe. That's when I started feeling the spark again, the feeling that told me he was the right kind of guy.
"You're not too bad yourself," I giggled, continuing to sway with him.
He tipped my chin up with a tap of his finger, "I like you."
I smiled at his words, "I like you, too."
Before I could rest my head against his chest again & go back to our small dance, he caught me off guard by pressing his soft lips to mine. Surprisingly, I kissed him back. We were so caught up in our moment, it felt like a fairytale. How do I explain this? It felt like butterflies & rainbows.
He slowly pulled away, smiling from what had just happened, "So, I reckon we're a thing now, yeh?"
I nodded, smiling at the thought of us together, possibly having a wedding just like this one with one another, "Yeah."
