When I Write

The words flow through me
And I write them down
In the heat of the moment,
They're given the crown

When I stop writing
I'm left with a story
And my heart becomes jelly
As I realize I've created something
Something beautiful,
A story to be told
A part of me
In just a few words

I hadn't thought about my actions
But now I can see the aftermath
Of no planning, just spontaneousness
And the quick tapping of my thumb pads

I read over my poem
And I cover my mouth
I'm overwhelmed with emotion
At the weight that flowed out

I smile at the picture,
At my glorious design
I'm pleased to the point of laughter
And I swim in my pride

I've made a new creation
I've given birth to a child
That will hopefully grow up and spread,
The love in it, wild
It will live past my years,
Will not be taken down to my grave
My story will live on
Known, I'll be made

The light is bright
Which breaks through darkness,
Opens hearts to love,
And gives new life to broken pieces
For, through stories, new life
Is born when I write
