The United States is its name, but of what unity does this country stand?

A/N: I understand that I'm probably going to receive a lot of opposition to this poem because it addresses some things that I, personally, believe, but others do not agree with at all. I want you all to know that I completely respect every human's own legal and moral right to their opinions and beliefs. This is simply me putting my own out there to voice what many could agree with. I'm truly sorry if I offend anyone with this.

I also want to point out that, as some of you may know, I didn't grow up in the states, I grew up in Ghana, West Africa. So this might be a slightly biased opinion. However, it is based on my education of American history, and my knowledge of current events happening in The United States of America.
Thank you for reading🙂

When did it become okay
To use our God's name in vain?
When did civilization decide
That killing a fetus was alright?

What has this country become?
It's certainly not a country of life, liberty, and justice for all
It's an absolute shame
To think of what our forefathers would say
If they were to see this place today

It might still be The United States
But what is that unity of and for?
What are we battling against
Where is our sense of togetherness?

See, I'm a citizen of this country
Whether I like it or not
I apparently belong to this place
I find difficult to call my home

And, though I hate what we are,
I love what we used to stand for
And it makes me sad that
What we once stood for is evident no more

Through all our respects and honor That the true patriots of this country receive from us
Don't you think that the least we could do to honor them and what they died for and lived for
Would be to simply follow the example that they set for us?

Tell me,
How have we opted to deem this simple action "impossible"?
