Dylan was visiting the doctor after noticing spots on his skin, he was seeing the best oncologist in the area, Dr. Hazel Sexton. He sat in the office, he had cold feet, he didn't know what he would do if the worst news came.
Dr. Sexton came in and sat down.
"We need to talk Mr. Gross."Dean and Dylan visited Ellen's house, not hearing from her all night had them worried.
The house was dead silent, you could hear every creak that the wooden boards made. Dean looked at Dylan and signaled him to go upstairs to see if she were still in bed. Dylan walked up the stairs and heard a groan from the room.
"Ellen? You there?"
Dylan cracked the door to reveal Ellen, drunk off her ass and bullet holes all around the house.
Ellen sat up and patted a space next to her to have him sit.
"Ya know, last night I almost killed myself. I had the gun in my mouth and everything, I couldn't do it though."
Dylan handed her headache pills and some water. Dylan sighed watching her pull her hair from her grief-stricken face to take the pills, he loved her so much, he didn't know how to deal with this though.
Dean came upstairs to see Dylan in deep talk with Ellen, he was tired, they all were.
"Ellen, come live with us. There is another spare room that you can stay in."
Ellen looked at them both, she was insincere disbelief by the offer.
"I would love to boys, I just don't wanna feel like I'm a burden."
Dylan playfully pushed her and shook his head, "you'll never be a burden."
Ellen got up and walked to the closet and started taking clothes down, getting ready to leave.
Dean and Dylan waited down at the impala and waiting for Ellen to say goodbye to the house she called home for nearly 50 years, she was saying goodbye to her husband and daughter.
Ellen walked down the stairs slowly, each step she took she watched memories flash. She began to choke up and realize she's lost her family. She's lost her world. She finally reached the front door and turned around for a final goodbye.
Walking out she felt a cold breeze and wind. She knew it was either her husband or Jo saying goodbye. Getting into the impala was a relaxing moment. Dylan was sitting there thinking about the other night. Sam is married, he needs to break it off.
He couldn't imagine a life without them anymore, he needed out though, the hunting life wasn't for him. He can barely survive nights when it's bad, let alone an entire life of it.
The pressure surrounding the affection he felt for Sam was beginning to spark insanity outbreaks with him.Arriving back at the bunker Ellen went downstairs to unload her luggage while Dean stood outside the door to smoke. He only smoked when he was stressed or pissed off. Dylan watched him light the cigarette and slowly exhale the thick cloud of smoke.
"Dean, I need to talk to you."
Dean looked intrigued by Dylan's sudden motivation to speak. He continued, "I'm gonna be moving out soon. I can't continue to constantly live in this hunting life. I'll die before I could marry."
Dean took a hit and exhaled the smoke in his face. Dean was trying to find words in his body that could be said to make him stay. It would damage Sam if Dylan was to depart from the safety of the bunker.
He finally spoke up, "Dylan, leaving won't do anyone good. You'll die out there without the proper training or with the people who could keep you alive. If you wanna leave that's fine, but think of what will happen."
Dylan knew the topic was subtly changed from death to Sam and how he'll react. Dean put out the cigarette went in and Dylan followed him through the gigantic door.Dean walked in on Ellen sitting on the couch on the phone with someone.
"Yeah, thanks. That'll be all." Dean figured she was ordering dinner for everyone so he just walked on by.
Ellen got off the phone and walked to Sam's room where she heard Sam and Dylan talking;
"Sam I'm sorry, but I need out of this. You deserve better and you've earned better."
"Dylan please don't go. I love you and.. and I can't do this without you."
"Sam I have to go for me, and you."
"Dylan stop. Please."
Ellen heard this go on for a while. Sam was crying and Dylan was as well. The pain was palpable and at certain parts of the argument just unbearable.
That's when she heard the news that would cause Sam's world to fall apart.
"SAM! SHUT UP! I have cancer. It's stage 1 melanoma. They found cancer on my back."
Everything went silent. The room and halls echoed with pain that was once again palpable.
Inside the room, Sam sat down on the bed and sobbed in his hands. Dylan sat down next to him crying harder than him. Dylan didn't tell anyone about his diagnosis because he didn't know what to do himself. The diagnosis itself was deleterious.
Ellen walked in crying, her body flooded with severe damaging thoughts and despondency. The thought of losing her son was unbearable. She's lost one child already, she won't lose another.
