"So, why are you out here in the forest, er, Thranduil?" Galather asks. He seems honestly confused and concerned, almost annoyed with my presence.
"I needed to think." I say simply. He nods, but he doesn't seem fully satisfied. Thankfully Deryth breaks the silent skepticism between us.
"Well that is understandable, Galather. He's just as young as us and becoming king because his father died! Give him some slack."
"Thank you, Lady Deryth." I tell her. She waves a hand.
"Just Deryth." She comments and I nod at her words.
"As you wish." But I cannot feel a small amount of rage flame behind my skin at Galather's distrust. "Forgive me for asking, but what exactly are you doing out here, away from the celebration?" I inquire. Deryth sends Galather a glance.
"Well, uh, this is our special part of the woods and we come here when we feel the need to get away." Deryth explains somewhat hesitantly. "Very similar to you."
"I understand." I look around and examine the concealed clearing we were in. It was a nice spot of the woods. I sit down on the log they were sitting on. They both watch me: Deryth with curiosity and Galather with suspicion. Eventually they both sit down were they were sitting originally. All three of us sit in silence with nothing but the wind and leaves to here.
"I'm sorry about your father, Thranduil." Deryth says suddenly. I look up at her gorgeous face, her brilliant blue green eyes meeting mine. Then she continues, "I lost my parents when I was very young."
"What happened?" I ask softly.
"Well-"
"HALT!" A familiar voice shouts and Deryth instantly stops talking. I turn and see Ettrian Rewen, the leader of the Mirkwood guard, holding his bow up with the rest of guard behind him.
"Ettrian, its alright." I say. "Galather, Deryth, and I were just talking."
"Why not at the celebration, my lord?" He asks.
"That's enough, Ettrian." I order.
"Sorry, my lord, we were just worried that something had happened to you." He explains.
"I understand Ettrian, I will head back to the celebration right away." I stand up and follow the guard through the woods. I turn and see Deryth and Galather watching me closely. I send them an apologetic grin and then travel back to my royalty.
