At first Deryth seems surprised with my action. Her angelic face stays unchanged as I stand in quiet excitement. Her rosebud lips finally curve up into a tiny smile. She squeezes my hand-- which I forgot she was still holding.
"Thranduil," She starts. Her eyes linger on my chest, obviously avoiding my own gaze. "I..." She stammers and then stops. I am about to speak when a branch breaks behind us. Our hands unlock and our eyes dart towards the sound.
A large spider slowly creeps towards Deryth and myself, its massive glossy pinchers clicking together.
Deryth lets out a small gasp, but then quickly recovers and unsheathes two enormous knives from her belt. My hand moves swiftly to my own belt and I draw my long gleaming sword. The spider hisses loudly as I circle around it and Deryth advances. With an echoing scream, the beast rears and springs towards Deryth. She slides underneath it and stabs its stomach. It lets out a long pain-filled cry and staggers a few paces away. Deryth jumps up and straddles the animal. The creature rears some more and throws her from its back.
"No!" I yell before I sprint over and leap into the air with my sword outstreched. Everything seems to move in slow motion from that point forward. I hear Deryth calling my name. I see the spider lunge at me. But finally my sword meets the monster's neck, separating the head from the body.
But something else lurks in the corner of my eyes. Another large animal. My head whips around to see Deryth being dragged away by a spider. Then a sharp stinging pain erupts in my back. I cry out in agony as the pointy object pushes further into my back. The pain agony makes my head spin and the world dizzy.
I feel long thin legs drag me away towards to unknown.
