When You've Got Nothing Left

324 30 9

No freedom
No choice
No shame
No voice

Disparity is all that stays
But what will you plead for?
"On your knees!"
It always seems to change

The process is the same:
Tears, screams and lashes
I stare dumbfounded at the floor
Where's the one you were before?

For food
For money
For water
Or a home

At this point I don't know
Why grovel like a mutt?
Why plead?
Why stay the same insect I see?

You've surrendered
You've given up
Your empty eyes
Scream "why fight?"

"Then don't"
I don't know
I don't care at this point
I simply stare at a loss

What has life thrown at you?
A stone, a knife
What trials are ahead of you?
Pick up the weapon and fight!

But I'm too late
Time is something no one controls
It can't be reversed or sped up
It's a decaying machine that won't turn off

I sit here and wonder
"What if?" "What if?"
But you chose to plunder
I guess life wasn't all that you wished

The story:

I've actually got no clue. Something just clicked. I think I just understood that some people are desperate, because they need to be. And the moment you give up on them, when you can no longer recognize them,  they give up on themselves too. I guess life was too much for them, and I don't know how that feels, so I just wrote what I saw. What I think they felt. And I've never experienced this stuff before, but if anyone did, know that it's not your fault, you can never control the inevitable. What they feel is something no one could take away, maybe help them forget, but they can't rely on you forever. Reality will just hit them all over again and nothing gets better.

A/N

Chapter dedicated to @ainttooboring for being an awesome poet. I had a small chat with them and they were so kind.

So, um, the cover of this book was made by me. (I know it's plain) But the goal was to make this like a notebook. Something with no accurate genre. I think the simple look was achieved, but I drew this on my PC and wanted some feedback.

(It's still suppose to look random, plain, simple, and childish)

I want to add more to it, making it look like a child doodled all over it, but I don't know what else to add

I want to add more to it, making it look like a child doodled all over it, but I don't know what else to add. If you guys know what I should add to make this messy/simple/childish but still cool, comment on it. I think it's pretty cool if the readers had a say on the book.

I was thinking something like a crow doodle on the quote and some grass would look right, and maybe those terrible trees you draw as a child. (I'm not actually that bad at drawing, again, it's the look I want for the book. Approachable.)
