What Did I Ever Do To You?

I smile

I laugh

I joke

And play

But you look at me

With disgust and contempt

Telling me I don't deserve it all

Telling me to take your fall

Do I even know you?

Have we met?

Have we talked before?

Is this some kind of test?

Why won't you listen?

I want to explain

Why is it when I speak up

No one seems to care?

Don't you want to hear what I have to say?

I'll take your sneer as a no

Would you like me to leave?

Like many others have asked before

Both my opinion and facts

Have gone void to your ears

Yet when you speak up

Everyone hears

What did I ever do to you?

Why do I deserve your hate

Did I hurt you in any way?

What do you want me to say?

Your hatred is evident

A burning flame

Bright as a star

But not as far away

You burn away my forest

My sanctuary and home

The only place I've ever had

Burnt down by a stranger gone mad

Your hatred is radiation

To a dried up wasteland

I don't even know you

What did I ever do wrong?

A person who just hates on another for no reason. Never talked to them, never struck up a conversation, they just, don't like them.

The voice in the poem sounds pretty confused, why do you think that is?
